I am getting tired of replacing the Vortex 520 aluminum sprocket and DID ERV 3 chain on my XB12S Street bike every 5000 miles or so.

I wonder if any one has used Sidewinder gear?

They want about $170 for a custom built 46 tooth sprocket Titanium ll Sprocket that is guaranteed for life, And $170 for their smart chain which is rated at 16,000 lb.s tensile strength and is supposed to last twice as long as conventional o-ring chains.

The don't stock Buell sprockets but will make them to order.

The stuff is expensive, but worth it to me if it lasts as long as they claim.

I always found that the Vortex stuff seemed to wear faster too in various road race applications. I've traditionally used stuff from Sprocket Specialists. I think they have Buell stuff that they can make. I really have always been very happy with them. If they have to make it, it doesn't take very long too. You can have it hard anodized for more durability too, lightening holes, etc.

Y'know... this has me thinking here.

Pete Alessio at Grandstand makes a living at metal finishing and machining. Wonder if we can get bare/unfinished sprockets sent to him for HARD anodizing????

Thank you very much, Erik and Dave.

Sprocket Specialties has the patterns for Buell sprockets, so their Titan Hard anodized sprockets are half as much as Sidewinder, take one quarter the time to make, and the customer service is a lot more together than Sidwinder, who didn't return my calls, then returned them twice, and needs me to send a sprocket for them to use as a model.

So I think I will get one of Sprocket Specialties'sprockets, and a new DID ERV 3 chain, unless anyone has a better idea.

No, that sounds like a good plan.

Glad the people at Sprocket Specialists were able to help. Just have been a very reliable source for stuff for me for a long, long, long time.

I am pretty sure Pete could harden sprockets, but why not purchase them from him also?
he stocks and sells Buell sprockets, which we used in Moto-st last year with good results

Hey Guys,

I can make a race sprocket for you guys with no problem at all. As Rick can confirm, I start with only the highest quality sprocket blank made of domestic aluminum only. No import stuff. It makes a big difference in the durability of the sprocket. I can make a special "race lightened pattern" and anodize in either type II or type III. Type II gives color choices type III gives more coating thickness but can only be silver or dull black in color.

I can make pretty much anything. Do tubers have the same hub diameter and bolt spacing as an XB? How many teeth do you want?
