wondering if anyone has had any luck straightening these things out. i had a get off at the track & it's a little tweaked at the mirror mount. i've had clutch/brake levers bend and when i went to straighten them out.,...snap!

Did it bend? Normally they will just crack. For a crack, you can possibly add a bracing piece to hold things together after repositioning it.

about two inches down it bent & cracked about half way through. it will still hold the fairing on but interferes with the brake resivore. i repositioned the brake to clear it & get back on the track, but it's not quite where it's supposed to be. so i guess i could try & bend it & if it cracks then splint it? i'm afraid to heat it, i remember what happened last time i put a flame to magnesium in chemistry class...

L0940.02A8 is the part number for a new one (at least for the 2007 models that I have a parts book for) and the cost should be less than 140.00.

The LOW cost of Buell parts never fail to amaze me.

Or you could just weld it. Kidding. Kidding!

Yeah, I would just add a splint. Don't try heating it. Buy a new one if you like, but this probably won't be the last time that this happens.

good point! i'm amazed how well the thing crashed. i was going somewhere around 80 mph & it flipped on both sides. five or six parts later i was back on the track! (thanks to wolfridgerider)

if they break they do weld. it just needs tri mix gas and 5356 wire. warm the part first with heat. burn off the paint. once warm then weld on a temp 10% lower than alum settings for the same thickness. i have welded a few and have welded this type of metal many times with success.
a real welding shop that knows metals can do it.
you can use heat on it. but do it just like you do if you are bending plastic water pipe (conduit) it work good that way. not too much heat. its ready to bend before you see it get too hot. the color does not change when ready. if you torch it hot, well it will melt out on you and make a mess on the floor.

its not a easy repair but it does repair.

X/,

Yes it does repair BUT...IMO...

To even attempt to recommend a tig procedure when dealing with magnesium is not within the scope of anything less than questionable chance...given the inexperience of welding procedures available, herein.

Such a welding repair should NOT be attempted by any less than a real, veteran, PRO.

Please don't attempt to tig/weld or repair with any said heat. Find someone that can do it or stick to the rest of posts and bridge repair or buy another...mm

very true sly.

if you dont know what you are doing 100% just buy a new one. we get them at good cost for what they are.
we have broke a few in my riding group.
I think we paid something like 119.00 ea.including shipping.
a qualified shop to weld it will charge you that much. so you may as well buy one.

myself i am a exception i can weld mine if i feel like it. thats if its a small break. if its shattered. get a new one.
