Just got the December issue of Road Racing World in the mail yesterday. It includes an article on the SST race at Daytona with a shot of the pit for Bruce Rossmeyer's Daytona Racing crew (who fielded the 1125R ridden by Michael Barnes and Shawn Higbee).

The interesting thing is the photo (on page 93) shows a spare front wheel for the bike lying in the pit. The wheel has a brake caliper already in place, complete with quick-disconnect for the brake line. This seems like a pretty neat innovation- I wonder how they quickly attach and detach the caliper to the forks?

I've been kinda wondering myself about the caliper attachment.

I'll do some asking around this weekend. I'll be pitting with Higbee and if he's not sensitive about the info, I'll post it.

It can be done with quick connect pins. I've never done it myself, but, really, you could find some WERA endurance team that have the set up.

Shucks, tweren't nuthin. Just did a search here and found those 2 in the results.

I'm interested in what Slaughter may find out about the caliper attachment/detachment in conjunction w/ the quick disconnect.

If you look close, you can see where the plate on the caliper matches up w/ the fork leg mount. It's the small line you see btwn the quick release pins.

Sorry about the low res pics from my camera phone, but hopefully this will give you the idea of how they did it.

It appears the caliper is on a plate that mates to the bracket on the fork, assuming there for positive positioning. The bolt locations are straightforward quick release pins.

I bet if you put a little bit of pressure on the brake lever and held it while you dis-connected the dry-brake the caliper would hold itself on the rotor.
