Now that it is indeed confirmed, I'm surprised there hasn't been any discussion on it.

I don't think it's a series until they actually put on a race.

There has been talk about it in other threads. I don't think the MIC has much of a chance.

Honestly, why don't they call it the Mel Harris Suzuki Cup.

It'll be interesting to see where Yamaha and Kawasaki fall. Yamaha seems to be firmly in the AMA/DMG camp and Kawasaki seems to be in "wait" mode.

KTM has comitted to AMA/DMG. If the AMA can get some supportive comments from BMW, Ducati, Aprilia and Harley/Buell (who are all racing in Edmondson's Moto-ST) and maybe Triumph (who is racing in Formula Xtreme and will be eligible for Daytona Superbikes) it will quickly become clear that the MIC series is simply being manufactured by Suzuki and Honda to continue to be able to cheat and dominate.

For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, here is an interesting perspective:

My opinion:

M. O. U. S. E.

Interesting that on our racing board out here at Willow, the sysop put up a poll and about 2:1, the opinions among racers are MIC can pound sand. I agree.

HOKAY - no sponsors other than 2-maybe 3 manufacturers, no venues... but hey, they're GOING RACING. (cutting the baby in half)

(can't take credit for the MICKEY MOUSE - I ripped it off from one of the racers at the Willow Springs BBS) but it was TOO FREAKING COOL to leave alone.

I guess nobody was watching the CART / IRL split and how much damage to open wheel racing as done. They managed to take something as big as the Indy 500 and turn it into a joke.

This is horrible for motorcycle racing with what will become no major series in the US, instead we'll have two second rate series. CART was doomed because the team owners, this case the manufacturers, ran the series which was a fox watching the hen house thing and the IRL (DMG in this case) was doomed because they didn't have the big teams and drivers. Only now is the series once again unified but there is a lot of damage to undo especially since NASCAR capitalized on the split and built it's fan base with many of those who lost interest in the two pouting little kids and ultimately starting nabbing the drivers as well since all of a sudden driving a stock car became a very lucrative deal. Now I don't see a NASCAR equivalent in this situation, but this seems far to similar to what happened in open wheel racing to give me a whole lot of hope for what's coming.

Seems that Honda may be heading DMG way afterall... I'll see if I can find the links I read over the weekend.

I think Suzuki would be just as happy having "sex without partners" as sharing the experience.

Yep:

RRW Article (clicky)

Edmundson and HRC's (USA) Ray Blank met "for an hour and ten minutes" at Indianapolis - when they were "interrupted" by the MotoGP race. They expect to continue the discussion tomorrow (Tues)

quote:

Ray Blank
In the spirit of cooperation, Roger Edmondson of DMG and I met today to discuss Honda's position regarding the proposed AMA Pro Racing road race series. A constructive dialogue was struck and while there is much to do in a short time to prepare ourselves for the impending 2009 season, we believe we can strike an accord that will prove satisfactory to our most important partners, from our race fans to our facility owners and operators as well as our sponsors. We are encouraged at the opportunity ahead.

If the MIC is going to lose out in this, and it looks as though they will, I hope it happens very quickly and very decisively. If the Indy 500 couldn't survive a split, does anyone really think that motorcycle racing can? I hate to be a naysayer, but I really doubt it, at least not without serious damage.

Turk,

You are correct!

They had better get their act together and soon!

It seems that they are coming around and sponsors are starting to line up now that they have commitments from Daytona International Speedway, Auto Club Speedway (Fontana), Road Atlanta, Barber Motorsports Park, Infineon Raceway, Road America, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and Virginia International Raceway.

On the maybe list: Miller Motorsports Park because of their World Superbike weekend.

Hearland Park-Topeka and New Jersey Motorsports Park are being inspected by the Rider Safety Committee and are also expected to have AMA events in 2009.

Looks like it could be one of the busiest seasons in a LONG time for AMA... assuming that the MIC gets out of the way.

Anyone heard a peep out of Suzuki? They seemed to be the ones with the biggest "I'm going to take my ball and go home" attitude. Or more like I'm going to take my ball and start a new game.

I'd rather they NOT add AMA to WSBK.. Let them have a full weekend to put on their full show..

Give AMA another weekend and Miller can host two full on motorcycle events..

Hmmm.. Not so sure about NJMP, been there and it may not have enough run off combined with a LOT of close armco.. Let's face it, it was designed with cars in mind and may not be safe for Superbikes to run on either track.. But we'll see what they say..

I just read that article and came away with the impression that there has been far too cozy a relationship between the race organizer/sanctioning body and the manufacturers. That does not bode well for the continuation of AMA roadracing unless that practice ends.

Hopefully DMG will be independent from manufacturers and successful.

"Hopefully DMG will be independent from manufacturers and successful."

No worries there. Why do you think the manufacturers are threatening to ditch AMA Road Racing?

Yeah. Looks like the manufacturers have a habit of taking taking their ball and starting a new game. Hopefully, DMG holds strong. Everything I've read that's quoted Ray Blank or reported on his actions seems very unflattering.

What was it again... Ray Blank (HRC) and Mel Harris (Suz)?

If you combine those two names just right (Mel Blank) you have Loony Tunes!

Both needs a shove off center stage so DMG can do the job unimpeded.
