I'm working on the bike and packing. Have reservations at Stateline.

Who else is going?

Susan and I. S1 is repaired and tuned and making gobs of power again. RR should be running later this week. We're at the Stateline.

Aaron, did Susan find a new helmet, or has she learned to hold her breath?

I have an XS Arai here that I can "borrow" for the cause if you want to take different brands.

Hell yes! That's the whole issue, we don't know what will or won't work and we can't go buy every helmet on the market.

Aaron; how about rigging a double chin strap similar to paratrooper helmets. You know how they have a regular strap, and stitched onto that is another short strap going in front of the chin.

That should prevent the main strap from pulling back and choking Susan.

Aaron,

If it's a helment "size" problem, I solved it with my daughter by buying a couple of helmet liners. One thick one and one really smooth soft sheer one. Bought them out of the aerostich catalog.

Aaron, I have a Shoei RF 800 in size small I could send you. Used once by my wife. Won't be used again by her unless hell freezes and that's not in the forecast. Say the word and it's UPS'd.

Jim: it's a lift issue, not a fit issue, but thanks.

Henrik, I'd love to try one of those chin straps, but how I'd get one and fit it up to a helmet in a safe and legal manner, those are hurdles.

Steve, thanks, but I really don't think it'll fit, she's tiny. Appreciate it though.

I think we'll try the Arai, and we'll also try to score an RF-1000 in XS if possible this week, they're supposed to have some aero tricks to reduce lift.

Simpson makes a BUNCH of helmets designed to control lift but they're all way pricey.

Aaron,

My helmet that I used in September was a Fulmer, No lift issues, the price is right <$150 and is Snell 2000 certified. Just a thought man.

Well, 'preciate it, but remember this is an unfaired S1 at a buck seventy. A bit of a different deal.

I don't know how your XRTT fairing is, but that same basic thing on the RR is amazing, even at 180 there's not even a hint of wind noise or buffeting. All I could hear was motor.

I'll dispatch the Arai your way. Also, I think we MAY (very long shot) have a shot at a "loaner" xs Simpson from the factory. Look and let me know what model you want.

Simpson Sizing

TO ENSURE AN ACCURATE FIT, use this chart to order your correct helmet size. Carefully measure around your head, above the ears. Take the measurement, in inches or centimeters, referring to the sizing chart below for your correct hat/helmet size. Helmet must fit properly for optimum performance. Don't guess your size. Helmet must be securely and snugly fastened before engaging in any activity.

She measures 21-1/8 ... aka JR or XS depending on the brand.

The Bandit with the anti-lift features is actually the "Super Bandit". It retails for about $425 in black, which ain't too bad. That and the Shoei RF-1000 are the leading candidates. She's going to call around to our suppliers and see what could be acquired in a week's time and at what price. Whatever we get, it needs to be here by Monday the 13th.

With the tach off of Whiplash I experienced the same thing as Susan (we talked about it at Utah) and I had to revert to the way we did it on the XR1000.

Head down, basically the face shield is against the tank, top of helmet is forward into wind. Look at the side at the black lines going down the track, steer accordingly.

From the team who has never run a fairing......

Jim,
That's exactly how I got the last 3/4 MPH needced for the 130 Club. Kind of scarey the first couple of runs not looking where you are going but it worked.
I watched the tire tracks from previous runs, as long as I was going parallel I knew I was OK.
If I started to drift across the lines, I took a quick peek, corrected then put my head back down.
But as Aaron said, ther is a BIG difference between 130 and 180MPH.

Aaron, Susan, Snail, good luck! Ride safe, ride fast and have lots more fun!!!!!

That's one thing, we didn't have black lines at the edges of the course this year at WOS. I suspect we'll have them at the event next week. Makes it a lot easier to do the no-look thing.

Aaron,

Yea, sorry 'bout that wasn't thinking about all the factors. Just figuring on quality helmet that doesn't cost alot since it is untried.

As for the XRTT fairing it worked amazingly well no hint of any wind, drag or strain up to 100. It was agreat choice after all for my application.

Good luck to you all at the salt my prayers go with you. If you want you can glue mine back together and take her too, although the two bikes is probably enough to keep going and to focus on.

Chin strap: I'll look around and see if I can find something like it for motorcycle helmets. Here is a picture of how it's done on a paratrooper helmet. The split in the chin strap is what keeps the helmet in place without choking the wearer.

The extra strap running in front of the chin wouldn't have to be terribly strong. Just enough to keep the regular strap from migrating too far back under the chin.

Aaron..does Susan's helmet have the piece that fills in under the chin..for cold weather riding? I would think this would keep air out that would cause the helmet to lift if it's getting inside the helmet. Check all the vents also..I'm sure you have.

Here's to you & Susan tearing em up this time...get that Morrow record..we all want to see that straightened out correctly!

They'll know Aaron who soon...eh! Godspeed!

Dale:

The Arai on the way to Aaron has **I THINK** the hidden wind visor. I'llpost pics here to reveal it's location and operation.

All my helmets are RX7's and the one I sent is a Quantum so I'll have to make sure it has the same feature at the RX7's.

Good thinking....that is a great reminder. I enclosed some extra Adsis visors and I think one of them may have been the racing visor which is "cleaner".

This is exciting!

I have a Quantum also. And yes it has the spoiler hidden in the chin. All you do is pull the tab and it slides out into place. Hope this is some help.

Down to the wire, just to make my life a bit more interesting, the last parts for my swing arm extension were shipped today, from Florida.

Overnight express, I'd guess there's a strong 50/50 chance I'll get tomorow.

Can't do the final cutting to the chain guard until I get the swing arms mounted up...

If I can find a driver I can work on the bike on the way to Wendover.
