I have an 03 9R that is for trackday/racing only. I have removed all of what I thought was "extra stuff" from the harness and soldered any new connections I made to eliminate possible future problems. Now the bike wont do anything, the fuel pump wont even cycle. Can anyone here give me a list of what is and isn't necessary to run the bike ? I have retained the starter and charging systems. Or, maybe there is a buyable harness out there that will fix my home made problem ?

Hey Tim,

Why don't you come down to my new shop in Metuchen and check out my bike. I'm sure we can compare the two and figure out where you went wrong.

Pete

Talk to Henry Duga at Buell Racing. I'm pretty sure you can buy a race only wiring harness.

I've picked up a spare (stock) wiring harness on ebay. If you're stuck and need a stock harness for an 03, PM me and I will ship it for what I paid for it.

Thanks slaughter, but I have a back-up already. I may be dumb enough to hack up a harness. But I'm not dumb enough to hack up my only harness. The only reason I butchered it in the first place was because I am chasing a gremlin that I think is electrical. I figured I would eliminate all that is "extra" in the electrical dept. I guess I was a little to thorough.

Yeah - gotchya there. I pick up spare stuff all the time.

This time around, I'm eliminating the key for the ignition and have already bought the keyless gas cap from Grandstand Designs (Badweb Sponsor)

A little off topic, but for an entry level race bike, can't I just pull the lights and fuses and leave the rest? Thanks.

Yes you can. It would seem to be the prudent thing to do as well. The only reason I started gutting the harness was because the bike in question would make 1.5 laps around Summit or VIR and die. Only to start right back up again with a push of the start button. I swapped out everything I thought could be giving me this trouble to no avail. All that was left was the harness...right ? I'll never know as I replaced the harness and a couple of other things at the same time and the bike runs like a champ.
