It is really pathetic to see a company as big and wealthy as Harley Davidson put so little effort and money behind the Buell's and Walt. With their money and marketing ability, Buell should be a lot more competitive.

with NASCAR now in the picture, I'll bet Harley(Buell) will put more of an effort into racing now. Stupid if they don't considering the coverage it will soon be getting.

Thanks Elvis.

In 12 days these BMW´s like to win their class at the 1000Km of Hockenheim against the 1098,RC8, etc. and a Buell 1125R from Team Buell Racing Bonn piloted by Julius Ilmberger and Martin Kratzer and a second 1125R from Buell Hannover.

Starterlist here: http://www.1000km-hockenheim.de/pdf/Nennungsliste2008_klasse4.pdf

They started but both went down on the first lap.

Way to go Cooper and Parriot and BMW! Woohoo! With Hayes disqualified, the big Beemers finished 5th and 6th! WOW!

"Hodgson was in with a chance too until he ran across the chicane and lost loads of time "

But not so much later on after his engine gutted itself. He DNF'd due to that. :/

Duhamel's Honda went out with a fried clutch.

Zemke's Honda took a nap mid-race in the pits.

And now Hayes' Honda is found with illegal parts.

Go Honda?

Davies was riding well, but he apparently put his team-mate and last year's champ, Steve Rapp, a long way back by mistakenly pitting in front of him, causing Rapp to endure what amounted to a drive-through pit penalty. Shrewd strategy. joker

Kern tucked his Beemer coming into turn two and took out another rider in the process. Bummer that. I was routing for all the Beemers.

Will be interested to hear what put Walt out of the race. I'll always remember the shot of him on NASCAR turn 4, sticking his right foot out to signal to Hayes and Hodgson on which side to pass him. They blew by one on either side. Walt is a true gentleman, on track and off.

That is very cool about BMW. . . . I can see BMW raising the bar on this thing. They take the "boring" out!

Well done and best to Walt for making the grid and going at it. . . . I hope you know how many proud fans you have.

When Buell Racing hits. . . . you'll be the one with a "I remember when" tale!

Congratulations to the BMW guys!

The BMW's were so close to stock they even had turn signal switch gear. It was a fantastic race to watch. The BMW's sounded like WWII warbirds at full song, fantastic. Now that's air cooled racing!

It was great watching Walt on the Buell as well. Good effort, Man!.

I'm sure the BMW's were as stock as Josh Hayes
Honda. Looks can be deceiving.

turn signal switch outside, God know what inside. Not trying to insult your knowledge of BMW's. Sweet bikes none the less. Bone Stock?

Rocketspring (-: but aircoolers in the FX are legal anyway what they do...

Yeah, maybe the turnsignalswitch include the infield map for the injectionsystem left, and the fullboostmap for the highbank right (-:

I know what power BMW put in that Daytona mission. And I wish HD (of course BMC did not have that money)one day took the challenge serious.

not implying the turn signal switch does anything. but I also doubt that the bike was "so close to stock..."

At least they passed the inspections ... . Whatever they are, they are really good looking, great running, and wonderful sounding Boxers. More power to them (pun intended)

strange , sitting and watching a re-broadcast of the 200 and one commentator says "winning the 200 is something they can never take away from Josh" oh, the irony

I remember racing against an ex Boxer cup R1100S at brands Hatch in 2006 ,and being beaten by him in one race : (

Not only was he very fast, but he still had heated grips on his bike! Very useful in the UK at a cold wet Brands Hatch in March I can tell you!

On a related note , from the Moto-ST race in Daytona:

The BMW R1200S, 3rd overall, was apparently a street bike with lights and tags a few days ago. The race bike was totaled in an earlier race so they apparently took Nate's street bike which had brought down to use while teaching at Team Hammer, made it race legal, set the suspension, and raced it... With the switchable ABS brakes and heated grips and all. Great story.

That's not the first time Nate's been able to take a stock bike and turn it into a winner. A couple of years ago he raced at Summit Point with a 'stock' bike. Really, I shot the pics to prove it. Brake light lens, blinkers, tape over the headlight opening, two up seat, passenger pegs. It was as sight to see as he whupped up on folks on 'race bikes'. Them Beemers is good machines.. any way you slice 'em.

It sounded like an ignition problem .... or worse. Pretty rough right before they pulled out. It was pretty cool while they were there.

Nice seeing you there Shaker.

I would be a very shrewd ploy for a manufacturer to put a racing machine in stock trim then have a good rider go out and do well on it. Call me a skeptic.
