just keep the rpm around or close to 4000rpm but dont take it over 6000rpm till 300miles, after 300 miles up too 7500rpm till the 1st oil change at 620mi. dont hold steady throttle till you get the motor broke in. very the rpms

Thanks I plan on changing the oil allot while breaking it in, I have read that after like fifty miles it is dirty from the parts wearing in so I plan on doing them at 25 0r 50 then a 100, 300, 600, 1000, then 2000, from there it will be 2000 inless I go on the track then it will be before and after, I figure it is better to be safe than sorry, I am a bike only guy so it is my only way for me to get around. Thanks guys and have a good holidays. Mike

baggermike, never a bad idea to change that oil! especially right off the bat, never know what millings lay dormant inside that case!

Billetmetallic I am a motorcycle only guy that does not have allot of money so my bike has to last, before buying the 1125r I research breaking in a bike and there was so many different ways on which way to do it, but the most agreed on changing the oil after 50 miles, one guy made an excellent point that the engine looses so much metal it can block the filter causing the oil to bypass the filter and then your running a motor with metal in the oil which is very bad, so I figured it was better to be safe than sorry, I also read the first fifty miles are the most important for the break in and should run it a little hard but not lug the motor, I also read that you ride the bike for 15 minutes and then let it cool down and do this four times so I did that and was making my son crazy because of the stops and start then I would excellerate and then down shift so I was confusing him and told him this was important to do. I did not run the motor as hard as the said because S&S motors break in did not say to do this and have a life time of building motors, so I just did what I felt was right and hope I did a good job, I changed the oil at almost 50 miles then 200, 500, and switch to syn oil at 1000, they also said that syn oil for the break in is no good, so now I hope I have done it right, the bike feels like it has more tq than my sons xb12 at all rpms, this might be because of the lighter weight and six speed trans, but at any rpm from 3000 up this bike is feels better than the ulysses. I had bought the ulysses for its touring capabilities but found it to high for me, I grew up with these types of bikes, but in the 70s the dirt bike where not so high. When I bought the bike in june I had asked if buell was coming out with any major improvements or bikes and was told no, then found out that he was wrong, the new ulysses is so much better with the new 47mm forks and turning radios and the xb12 motor is all new and will handle allot more power, I liked the ulysses very much, it just did not have the power I wanted, I had to think for two month on which bike to buy and was between the 1125R, a bike I have never ridden or the ulysses that I liked very much and could be made into a really fast bike with allot of money, my brain said 88ci ulysses with a slipper clutch, 8 piston caliper, custom rear shock, and reworked front forks, etc, but my wallet said 1125R, and my wallet always wins. I bought a buell blast for my sons 18th birthday in november and been teaching him to ride, I am giving him my ulysses because he lent me the money to buy the 1125R, we both want to go to race school and do track days with are bikes, so now I got to start saving money for leathers and the price of the school. I am hoping my son get really good and will want to race and be good at it, I am just hoping he is and that I do not wipe out. I bought the 1125R so I can do track days, this will allow me to ride as fast as I want and be in a safe envirerment, also that will keep me from wanting to ride real fast on the street. I am looking forward to see how I do and if I can still ride like I use to 35 years ago. Mike

Hey Mike,RE the leathers,I have had real good luck shopping on eBay and Craigslist for used leathers for myself and my 21 y.o. son. All 4-5 sets have been less than 150.00.He has some nice Vansons and I have a set of Kushitani's I got on CL for 110.00.

Mike,I like CL because most stuff is local and you can see before you buy where eBay you are dependent on pics and description. But have had good luck with both.
