Got a spare swingarm and want to extend it for drag racing. Any recommendations on length?

I've always been told that thickness is more important than length...

FiremanJim I would go about 8 to 12 " on the swing arm but that depnends on what class you might be going for. A lot of the Hot street bikes are using 6" as a starting point. I also have the pingle inserts for the tube frame buell you are looking for.I can send them up to yu if you want them. Just be sure that if you make the swing arm longer, you need to make sure that the counter shaft center line is lower that the rear axle center line so the bike will launch and not wheeelie. Daryl

29731 Arnold Dr. Building L,Infineon Raceway,Sonoma CA 95476 and a big thank you!!
I am going to start with 6",are you using the strut length to set ride height and get the alignment you mention?
Anyone making an adjustable arm like the Busa's etc are using?

Hey Jim,

Both my tubers have 7" over swingarm. I'm running road race dots and engines at about 100-105hp level. No wheelie bar. 7" seems to work great. I use a strut made from a tubular control arm with heims on either end which i sourced at a local stock car supply store. Its lowered as much as possible... my only recommendation on the swing arm is to resist bracing it to keep it from flexing. I'm getting about 1 1/2" of flex at the wheel(based on my license plate getting hit by the tire!) and the thing hooks up awesome and goes straight. This seems to work well with a strut and no wheelie bar, may be a different story if you run a shock and/or a bar.

Daryl, that is fantastic, thanks.Where are you located? I owe you a round of drinks at least.

I fired the ROC bike up for the first time on thurs day after it's long storage life and it sounded great. Looks like it will make it to Laguna then there will be plenty of time to get ready for drags next season. Got a Dyna 2 step box and a Mikuni for it already.Should be a hoot.
