Probably have a race report soon but Jeff Dixon racing Glendale's XBRR just took second after leading most of the Formula Twins race yesterday - being out-maneuvered in the last two turns by Claudio Szyskowski on his 999R Ducati.

Considering that Dixon and the Glendale crew had the bike setup and geared for the Streets of Willow track and had setup the bike on the "Big Track" on Saturday, they were pushing it a bit. Sunday they decided to go with Dunlops since the Pirelli were a bit off on traction in the heat (may not have been a wise choice since the Dunlops have a taller profile but I digress...)

Sunday's race saw Dixon pull into the lead on lap 2 and trade lead off and on til the last lap.

Exciting stuff - better race report to follow.

The XBRR LIVES - though now the team has their work cut out for them and much homework to do on getting the bike properly setup and spending some more time on the dyno to get the VP fuel map working properly.

Nice seeing Dixon LEADING most of the race - even though he finished second, he gets a pretty big check from Buell as contingency payout!

Good shot!

I'm betting Claudio has 10x + the laps at Willow than Jeff and was that Jeff's first weekend on the bike?

That's an impressive finish against an accomplished veteran.

Since the posting above, Dixon on his Second time out put the RR on the podium and last weekend WON all the marbles on his third time out on the RR. He is now actually making money by taking some of that Buell contingency $$$ that Erik has made available!!

We'll be putting up racing reports in the Glendale sponsor section and at the Glendale HD/Buell website.

Dixon on Lap 1, Turn 4 - cutting inside of Michael Baird to take the lead away less than 40 seconds into the race:

And by lap 2, he was in the lead and gapping the rest by more than a half second per lap - he never looked back until taking the checkered flag!

(and for those of you who think the Ducati is "sexy" - just look at how much of Baird's body is un-streamlined compared to Jeff Dixon. Tell me that somehow the Ducati idea about streamlining is superior to the Buell???)

Dixon and Glendale have gotten it going now. Next season, look out!

That is a really neat comparison between the fairing designs. Like the centrally located exhaust this will be copied by the big 4 in time.

Congrats by the way.

Steve:

Apparently you are not aware but when a Buell wins a race it can be attributed to "local event against dilettantes".

The presumption is that the Buell is a full on factory works effort supported by the full resources of HD/Buell and the United States Govt while the rest are poor local kids denied Rupp mini bikes and left to do the best they can on their meager motos.

Sure . . . you could say that the person who got 2nd had their "visor fog up" . . but that's sooooooo last year.

: )

Court - Claudio Szyskowski and Michael Baird (2nd and 3rd) would be most interested to discover they're being referred to as "dilletantes." It seems that ALL non-Buells in races other than AMA, WSBK and MotoGP are races between Dilletantes.

(sigh...)

Maybe it was just the only French word the author knew to use in context?

By way of updating, we had the XBRR on the dyno today about 3 hours after changing to the "louder" exhaust. Discovered an intermittent electrical problem at the END of our dyno work... ran out of time before finding out WHAT it was. Hope it fixed itself... We ran it one last time on the dyno after buttoning it all up and ran out of time. We Will see how Dixon does tomorrow.

Weather from HE!! this weekend! Freeway closed again today with blowing sand taking visibility down to ZERO in EXACTLY the same place where there was a 20 vehicle pile-up with multiple fatalaties the afternoon before Inside Pass.

I hope today went well for Dixon. Crevier just won both the Supertwins and the Superbike races on the Deeley XBRR today at the ASRA races in Daytona. Of course, the rest of the field were on Rupps...

Well Anony - as a matter of fact, Dixon took the RR out two times - Heavyweight Twins and Formula Twins... won BOTH races.

Quite a relief since we spent a whole day on the dyno (new exhaust) on Thursday... and found out that we had an intermittent electrical glitch somewhere that would periodically stop the fuel to one cylinder (thanks to Matt Rasmussen for being so patient when we tried to chase that "error" in the map - which WASN'T an error) but we just ran out of time and warned Dixon of the problem and he said because he KNEW about when to expect that hiccup, he was cool with it. Just kept the revs and throttle HIGH and it was all good.

He was just going to lay low in the first race and since he missed practice, he was going to use the race to "get in the groove" for the Formula Twins race... and he said he just saw a hole when Claudio Szyskowski took a weird line and Dixon took the lead - in lap One... all the way to the checkered Flag.

In his next race - Formula Twins, Claudio looked like he was gonna make Dixon PAY for taking the Heavyweight Twins win away and Claudio got a good start, Dixon got hung up in fourth but by turn 3 was right back up with Claudio!

About lap 6 (8 lap race) Dixon took the lead (have to look at my notes to see if it WAS lap 6) - and finished a full 2 seconds ahead of Claudio.

It really was cool to see the two of them shaking hands and hanging out in Claudio's pits after their last race, sharing some laughs.

Folks don't realize that often, you're racing against your FRIENDS. Both of them ALWAYs get together after the races, shake hands and share notes.

FUN STUFF!

The Photographer should have the images posted in the coming week.

It WAS a great day at the track - more racing to report in BOTT Middleweight and Singles racing (please apologize to Erik for the abuse his poor little Blast gets at the racetrack!!)

More details as they become available.

Sunny and the other racers threw a surprise party for me in the pits today (54 today) They even announced it over the PA system!

Wind was ALMOST as bad as it was on the Inside Pass day this Wednesday and our poor sinuses are LOADED with about three counties worth of airborne crap. EVERYBODY is sniffing, coughing, wheezing and generally stuffed up.

Fun, fun FUN!

(edit the above) - got some input and turns out that spark errors which cause a mis-fire can give a momentary "too lean" reading.

Interesting.

Got some homework to do before next month's racing.

Sounds like a fine raceday. Thanks for the report Steve. I should have come in my car rather than my bike, then I would have been able to witness it all! It stirs the soul to see the XBRR and Dixon just thunder through to first place! Damn Santa Ana winds!
