Anyone who is questioning the credibility of any Anonymous poster here is also then indicting my own credibility as I personally vouch for and guarantee the credibility and integrity of each anonymous poster on BadWeB, at least since we began reserving the use of the anonymous option for those who truly require it.

We cannot guarantee that comments by anonymous posters won't be offensive to some folks. Some of the anonies would likely do well in the UFC and can give as good as they get. They would probably do well to avoid the personal commentary though.

Blake, do you personally know the identity of every anonymous poster and verify such when there is an anonymous post? Just wondering. Thanks.

That said Blake, I have no desire to be banned, or blemish our friendship. Though I am saddened you'd put our friendship on the line over a bloody motorcycle.

Just delete my posts in this thread. Such would offer a better solution to yours and others problems with my comments.

Rocketman says:
....Trust me, £6000 would see me sell my S1W never to return to Buell ownership again.

Ok. Now it is clear. An ax to grind and a forum to do so. That explains the vitriol towards all things Buell; racing and otherwise. FYI, my 11 years of Buell ownership (several bikes) has also had its ups and downs. However, good old fashioned courtesy and politeness has worked very well for me vis a vis BMC to rectify problems in the past. I suspect it will continue to do so in the future because I find the folks at BMC to be first rate and persons of their word.

And I couldn't disagree more, and thousands of pounds of my money putting mistakes made by Buell and their representatives say so. So don't please try and paint me into a corner as the disgruntled Buell owner bearing a grudge. My problems are likely ten fold yours thanks.

End of commentary. Shove this thread where the sun don't shine.

Steve a,
Thank you for your concise and measured post. If only everyone that posts here from Buell could be as polite and informed then we wouldn't degenerate into name calling I am sure.

I have every admiration for anyone involved in motorcycle racing, and particulalry for anyone involved in racing a Buell. I do not mean to criticise the people at the sharp end who are doing everyting possible to be competitive, and am delighted when a Buell does well in racing regardless of where and when it happens.

Blake, you couldn't be further from the truth when you say it is about ego. My frustrations do boil over at the apparent lack of passion shown by Buell UK and the UK dealer network, who appear to be driven solely by the need to fill their coffers with cash rather than promote or support the brand.
I am a Buell enthusiast, and it pains me to listen to customers who keep repeating the same old problems with their bikes every day and seeing no improvement in these critical areas. Dealers who deny problems exist even though they are well documented and common place, seeing the same old rusty exhausts still being churned out even though the factory must be able to do something about it. Broken belts with less than 1000 miles on them bt with no good will or warranty from the dealers, collapsed wheel bearings etc etc.

My biggest frustration though, is when I go onto other forums such as the UK Superduke forum and see just how many disillusioned ex-Buell owners there are out there. These are the very people that the company should be enticing back into the fold instead of driving them into the arms of other manufacturers, and to do that Buell need a fresh model range that can compete head on with KTM/Ducati/Aprilia etc.
If they go racing then it is as much a PR exercise as a sport, and if they cannot produce a bike capable of winning at the highest level then it is sometimes better not to race at all.

My sentiments entirely. And if I may, I will conclude by using Matt's words as a defense against my own comments so many are at pains with.

My problem is, I've been around the Buell brand for so long, and what I want from Buell hasn't happened. Thus I am disillusioned with the brand.

Because of the way Buell excuse themselves on one hand for not building better bikes, yet praise themselves on the other for quirky designs that only make up part of the product, I see such as woefully inadequate. Because Buell can't accept constructive criticism in anyway of such it seems, and instead retort with accusations of trolling and personal insults, I have come to dislike some of the personalities around the Buell Company. They certainly don't come across to me as my motorcycling heroes. And most often the praise that is reaped upon Buell for doing what I see as nothing to satisfy my needs only offers to wind me up.

I am of mind to sell my Buell, no matter the loss. It would be a shame in many respects. Least of all though, the way it ties me to the brand. In fact I'd feel better not having the association with Buell. Perhaps I'll get lucky and its sale price will jive me into a Brutale 910 maybe. Funny how I'd got my head around not wanting a Brutale in the end. Now instead, I think the time is right to move on. Buell simply can't listen to one of their most aware customers, and they certainly can't cater for his needs either. Yeah, it is time to move on me thinks. I'm sure that would make many in the ivory tower very happy.

Don't worry though, I'll still like you.
Of course, I'm still an "ignorant petrol head"

What is hard to believe is that there is still argument on this thread.
There was a race
There were motorcycles in said race
Buells won

Good for Buell and the teams that fielded them.

The fact that Buell doesn't build what some here want is of no matter. Buell doesn't build the bike you want? DON'T BUY ONE! There, that was easy wasn't it.

Plenty of people happen to like the bikes Buell has, and is building. Maybe not as many as some of you would like to have, like them, but?

I still have faith in Erik and his team.

But like I said, what do I know, I'm an IPH that sells bows and arrows.

Thanks Dave. You're a nice guy.

When I bought my S1W in 1998 I saw a company that was moving forward in a way I liked.

Come 2003 the XB9R, which seems to have been lost in translation from Sportsfighter to CityX to TT, was not the direction I expected Buell to take.

Smaller bike, smaller engine, less power, less speed. To me this was Buells 'safe bet' after the recall fiasco of the Tubers. Eventually Buell went to 1200cc and Renthal style bars with the XB12S, but apart from the Blast, Buell have done nothing to keep the tube frame faithful interested in my opinion.

Frankly I think it's a disgrace, but that's just my way of thinking, that a company of Buells engineering credibility and financial stability won't bring a particular genre of motorcycle to market when just a decade previous Buell had the specialist world at their feet with their take on production Streetfighter motorcycles. Instead we have seen the likes of Benelli, MV, Aprilia, Ducati, Triumph, KTM, and even the major Japanese players take Buells idea on and run with it very successfully.

Let me ask a question.

Do you think Yamaha would have turned their great R1 into an FZ1 if Buell had not set the trend?

If like I do, you believe Yamaha jumped on the Streetfighter bandwagon, then you surely must be as disillusioned as I am with what is coming out of the Buell factory.

So how does this involve an XBRR you might wonder. For me, as good and SUCCESFUL as they may well be, the XBRR is to Buell racing what the current Buell bikes are to Streetfighters. Neither is as good as it gets, and that's the disappointing thing for me about Buell.

So it is with heavy heart, and wishing you well (thank you Tony), that I am putting the Buell up for sale. The comments here from the ivory tower have made my mind up for me. Other companies poll their fans via press and website. Buell play cloak and dagger with their fan base. There are better bikes out there, made by companies that listen to their fans wants and needs, and I'm getting myself one before I go bald waiting for Buell to build their better one. Well, lets face it, in nine years they never once listened to me. And they wonder in the ivory tower why I'm so pissed off.

Well back to that ax to grind for a moment Rocket. I was the opposite of you. I when I bought my 4th tuber in 99 (X1) and had trouble with it, I got so pissed off I went and traded it on a BMW. An emotional move, for sure and had a lot to do with ax grinding.
However.. when the XB was available in 02, I could not help myself and I bought one. I've been happy with it.

I see more clearly why you are disillusioned in the replay to DaveS.

Cheers then and good luck with your decision of selling or not selling.

Blake, it's no more thoughtful, and thought provoking than usual.

I see your problem as you not letting me have the freedom to trade insults with the anonymous contributors who seemingly always trade insults toward me rather than stand up to my thoughtful and thought provoking posts.

I'm sure their shoulders are just as broad as mine. Trouble is, these anonymous types are more creative at dodging bullets than standing up to the criticism they should expect from the disillusioned. After all, it is Buell that have created this scenario by not catering to a large number of their once proud Buell fans. Truth is, I'm in that category now, but unlike 98% of them, I'm not over on Sacborg slagging f*ck out of Buell. Well actually, I'm the only one ever banned from there so I couldn't even if I wanted too. But anyway. Instead I'm still hear and I consider my comments the voice of reason representing those past and present who are still waiting for some part of Buell to return to their mid 90's roots, if only with limited appeal in mind, and build the super Buell those similar in thought to me are wanting. Instead Buell champion a different cause these days, and it's a lot less hardcore than I wished of what was once a, for want of a better word, badass company.

If Buell wished to appease my concerns you'd think they'd build a Buell to my liking, and name it in my honour.

It has been a long and winding road (thanks to Paul M.), but Erik Buell's best motorcycles are ahead of him. Buell's best racing days are coming. You will not have to wait much longer for your superbike...be patient.

In the meantime, I built my own superbikes at considerable cost and with much enjoyment. 88 CI is the way to go...fast. Very fast. The fact that there has been a thriving aftermarket for go fast products should have been all the convincing needed for Erik and Co. to have built the superbike long ago. The market was surely there...

I still have never understood what all of the "reliability issues" have been about. Except for the paper gaskets fiasco and trying to be cheap on a Showa shock, instead of building the latest iteration at first, the recalls were all minor inconveniences, at best. I have never heard any substantial numbers of complaints about wheel bearings, rusty muffs, and broken belts in less than 1000 miles...shucks my belt is old and have 40,000 miles of 88" torque cranking on it.

So it is with heavy heart, and wishing you well (thank you Tony), that I am putting the Buell up for sale. The comments here from the ivory tower have made my mind up for me.

Really...is that all it takes to make you sell your bike? Methinks some one takes this thread (hell, this forum) much too seriously. Geez, Anony talked mean to you and now you wanna sell your friggin' motorcycle over it? Rocket, you really need to get out more. It is apparent that you spend WAAAAAYYYY too much time on here. This isn't the real world...out there is (you know, outside...you remember outside, don't you? It is where the people with faces (not just handles) are...reality.

Going to sell his bike because somebody he doesn't even know (the guy's handle is Anonymous, fer' crissakes!) talked bad about him on a freakin' web forum!!!

Oh, and by the way, Blake is not your friend...nor is anyone else you have never met (by definition). I hate to be the bearer of reality here. Blake is your virtual antagonist, as is Anony. Granted, there is a real person behind the curtain, like most of us on here, as I have met the man. And like most antagonists on here, the real person is always way more likable, personable, warm, congenial, etc., than the virtual phantasm. But you really don't KNOW him by what he writes on here. It is an illusion.

It is interesting how these virtual worlds that we create morphs into our real world, especially for some. We we tend to confuse an alias with a real person whom we know, like, and trust, based wholly upon what that alias writes. I think it has to do with our pack animal mentality...let's face it, 6 million years of evolution is hard to change. It is like the assumptions we make when we hear someone on the radio for years and then when we actually see the person live, they look NOTHING like the person we assumed they were.

I think you should reconsider the decision to sell your bike until you can base it on more than the reasons you have stated here. Unless your bike is an illusion also.

Hey, I am not Dr. Phil here (I guess that may be lost on an Englishman), but let me tell you that you certainly have never met Anonymous...and let me assure you he is no friend of who he thinks you are (Rocket, not Sean)! Hell, he may even hate you if he knew the real you, and you knew the real him...but it is still not enough of a reason to sell you bike. Shucks man, where do you think you get those 5 stars from (it ain't your good friend Blake)...if you make a good point and there have been 10 folks rating your post and it shows 1.5 stars, I am the 10th guy who gave you the bump because of what you said, not who your alias is}.

Jim, I think you miss my point completely.

I am too far down the line to want to be part of the Buell thing.

I don't feel like Buell are my kind of company. I've come to dislike the way they represent themselves. Be it in the public domain or on here. They suck in racing terms as far as I'm concerned, and their bikes are no longer the sort of machine a Hells Angel would ride. In fact, the larger Buell has grown the more ordinary I see the company and the product. Yet on the other foot, when Buell started out they came at motorcycle design from a different place, but today it is the more mainstream manufacturer that is challenging the boundaries and approaching motorcycle design wearing blue jeans whilst Buell does everything it can to be accepted as the Saville Row suit wearing grown up.

Buell have sold themselves too normal for my tastes. I mean, even the likes of BMW have gone badass with their bikes. Buell are building for middle aged duffers it seems, and whilst this may surprise you, middle aged I might be, but I'm f*cking proud to be a motorcycle rebel.
