They just blasted off in Atlantis, and this rocket ship did only a 12 second quarter at 155.3 mph. That ain't so freakin' fast, my Buell is quicker than that. Maybe this should have been in the Land Speed section, as they were doing 3,000 mph in no time.

Comparing tourque/horsepower to engine thrust from multiple rocket engines is a little tricky to do. Not to mention the fact that the Atlantis is just a wee bit heavier and fighting gravity as well. By the way, how quick is your bike? Curious.

Ignoring traction and aerodynamic drag issues, if it takes 100 RWHP to push a Buell and rider from 60 to 80 mph in 3 seconds, how much RWHP would it take to accelerate the same Buell and rider from 3060 to 3080 mph in the same 3 seconds?

Anyone?

I should know better than to let you tempt me into doing this, but it looks like fun.

Lets see...

Work = 1/2 MV2
Power = Work / Time

Work to go from 60 -> 80 ~ 802-602 = 2800

Work to go from 3060 -> 3080 ~ 30802 - 30602 = 122800

Ratio of required work = 122800/2800 = 43.857

Since the acceleration time is 3 sec in both cases, the ratio of power is the same as the ratio of work, ie. 43.857.

New Power = Old Power * 43.857

4385.7 HP.
