While we're dealing with things that need saying, let me add that the single accurate word in that sentence is "sorry". . . indeed it is.

There exists a whole breed of folks who, having achieved little of value, seek but to diminish the efforts of others. They, instead, see the general lowering of the common bar as having the effect of making them appear taller. They are motorcycling's version of "no rider left behind".

I think taking on the big boys needn't be hailed as "do or die David v. Goliath" undertaking but simply fitting testimony to the enthusiasm that surrounds Buell Motorcycles and the people that ride them.

What other brand embroils so much enthusiasm as to have websites effectively dedicated to former, some disaffected, owners. Buells greatest resemblance to Ducati is the rabid enthusiasm that both elicit. That, particularly in this world, is a good thing.

Motorcycle racing, like any form of competition, emboldens and emblazons those who gather round it, inviting each to share their opinion of "the only RIGHT way to do things".

I'll share a personal secret. . . I could care less if Walt stands atop the podium that day, finishes dead last or dispatches his whirly parts toward communion with the sun on lap 2. . . what I want to see is a Buell on the grid doing HIS personal best.

Know what. . the moment that happens. . . I WON.

Tough to close this without including the good old Teddy Roosevelt quote . . .

Is that to mean we all scream 'GO BUELL GO', or does it mean, 'let's see what the BadWeB community thinks of a Buell or RR in the 200'?

If we all scream 'GO BUELL GO' then I want to know what I'm screaming for before I go screaming.

Frankly dude, anyone with enough whatever it takes to get on the grid in the 200 has done well in my book. That goes without saying. But that for me doesn't excuse someone fortunate enough to have an XBRR at their disposal come along and take the glory of the Buell fans simply because there's a void on the 200 grid that needs filling.

Guess how many racers apply to race the TT every year, and get turned away, even though they know they will have a hard time just getting to the finish if they're lucky enough to get on the grid. The vast majority know they'll never have a cat in hells chance of getting a TT medal, but their glory is getting on the grid. I WAS WONDERING IF THAT WAS THE MOTIVATION BEHIND THE VERY FIRST POST IN THIS THREAD. Now I'm told it is not, and the effort is 'serious' I'm glad I asked the question.

I admire your enthusiasm, but often it is the product of a huge ego which serves yourself better than anyone else.

However, might I suggest that you take your boundless enthusiasm to a Ducati forum and share with them your unbridled positive attitude and your great depth of knowledge. But this isn't Buell that is entering this race. This is a privateer team that, with all of the choices of machinery, chooses to enter their rider on a Buell. If they wanted to win the race, they could have entered a bike that has had a better history then the RR, but maybe their goal is to fight a hard race and finish respectably to show that the brand has merit. Walt, like he said, I'm sure will try his very best to win the race, but when all else is NOT equal, winning isn't always everything.

Walt, I will gladly buy a team shirt if you have extras made.

Welcome back! . . we missed you. : )

And, I am pleased to say, you are not the only one. I have heard from a group of Italian Buell Riders who are becoming interested in coming to Daytona.

I'd love to see what kind of support resources, ranging from money, fund-raising to the technical stuff. I'm going to be tough to get a hold of during the weeks from now one, but will be monitoring from time to time ready to help in anyway I can.

I say we set aside are various opinions and marshall whatever support we can. . . to make this OUR best effort.

I'm really excited.

Blake, there wasn't any information given with the first post from Bison, and he invited comments.

I simply asked at what level Bison's effort was at compared to the factory helped effort last year. I also said beforehand "NOT TO START A WAR"

That sounded to me like he was asking for questions so he could give that information he mentioned. I really wasn't trying to start a put down. But I am interested in knowing where they'll think they could place. Podium would have my ears pricked up. I couldn't care less if there's an XBRR running in the 200 if the effort is no more than a token entry.

So I was hoping Bison might have answered with...

"We might not have McWilliams on board, but we're confident we can run as strong as he did - and finish - but we could do with your lard arse piloting though Rocket"

Then I was lumped in with the 'glass half full' crowd. For what? Asking the only question in the thread that let everyone know the full extent of the commitment?

I'm not that keen in anyone racing for a finish in any discipline unless they're a dead cert underdog taking on the big boys. Buell and an XBRR do not fit such criteria in my book.

As for myself road racing, I have no desire to prove myself on a track. Especially at my age. The B1257 is temptation enough, and beats any track I ever rode.

Sorry again if my comments upset, though I don't see why. I'd say most in this thread need reading lessons given the amount of explanation prior to any questions or comments I raised.

I think it will be fun watching Walt ride in the 200, but I think we need to keep our exuberance in check with reality. According to the scribes on this forum, it was all of that false exuberance that got us into trouble last year (as opposed to the official hype that came from on high).

I am not sure how Bison racing will be able to muster the resources necessary "to make this OUR best effort.", when all the kings horses and all the kings men (McWilliams included) couldn't come close to doing it in the full-on factory efforts last year. But that should not diminish the fun of watching Bison and Walt give it the good ol' college try at being competitive with the other true privateers. That is a realistic goal, and I am glad that Walt gets to try...he is a heck of a nice guy and a real competitor.

I think Buell's "best efforts" in the world of racing are ahead of it, just like Erik's best motorcycles are ahead of him. So let's enjoy this for what it is, and make the best of what we have to root for, without going too far out on a limb. There are a lot of folks on here who do not take disappointment too well. If you have been a fan of Buell racing since the Pro Thunder daze like me, then you have had the opportunity to learn how not to let unrealistic expectations ruin your weekend.

I hope Walt will be racing the Bison bike in CCS/ASRA too. That will be a lot of fun watching them compete with Mutantman there too. Really, I think it is going to be interesting to see how many of the 56 Buell XBRR's come out to race...and how many get stuck in private and not so private collections.
