anyone know of successful TRACK bike specials made from large dirt engines coupled to custom track frames & susp'n ..

maybe keep/modify dirt swing arm ..

been thinking of building a special based on a 400-500cc 2 stroke .. ok ,, might be talking out of my arse, but am bsessed w/ 500cc gp type bikes ..

i like building & love unusual .. i am certain this isn't so unusual .. i know of the snowmobile motor special that F1 doctor made ..

what i wanna know is if it is a relatively easy monster or, if i am likely to have certain problems w/ handling re: stock/braced swingarm??

paul.

Relatively easy but if you're racing, you may be limiting the number of classes you can enter.

Usually in most clubs, these type bikes can ONLY enter one class - whereas production bikes can usually enter two or 3 classes.

HOWEVER... I've lusted after Bare Bones work - stuffing Rotax into a TZ chassis for a LONG TIME:

Europe and the UK have superb Supermono race series with most bikes using dirt bike based engines such as CRF450/YZF450 motors for the minimonos and XT660 based motors for the larger ones. IT is probably the most innovative race format outside of GP racing because pretty much anything goes : )

Tigcraft are probably the best know of the chassis makers. There web site is at http://www.tigcraft.com/

Or here for the British Supermono Association to see more bikes : )

Most Supermono bikes struggle to meet the Thunderbike power/weight ratio limits and stay competitive. We tried to encourage Supermonos into the UK Thunderbike series but they were miles out and needed so much lead ballast it unfortunately made them uncompetitive.

Still plenty of other classes to run in though : )

Who (in the US) hasn't lusted after a 500cc or greater 2 stroke in a sport chassis?

As a one-off custom it could be built in probably 49 states (Kalifornians need not apply)
as a street bike that you could race occassionally as well

I love the smell of 2-stroke smoke in the morning...when it's being produced by a machine
that is begging me to go way too fast on gnarly pavement (or dirt) and is super light weight.

Cagiva is thinking of introducing the Mito powered with the 510cc single-cylinder engine from their Husqvarna dirtbike. This will make 50rwhp at 135kg. Not bad..... and the style is like a Ducati 916. The bike was introduced at Milano show, so that Cagiva can get some feedback from the public and make up their minds if there is a market segment for it. I think they got a good reaction and it was voted as one of the best looking bikes of the show. So maybe they will actually manufacture it.

Also there were rumors that Aprilia considers using its V-2 550cc engine that drives their new dirtbikes, to create a new RS to replace the 2-stroke RS250. The RWHP of this engine is 70hp ....... and if the new bike keeps the cornering potential of the RS250 that would be a something....

The Cagiva Mito is HOT! but the pillion seat and pegs would have to go.

BTW Tamburini rocks. He has designed some of the sexiest bikes ever.

Pity it hasn't got a 500cc two stroke motor in the Mito though....Now that would be fun : ) Where did I put that CR500 and Aprilia 125 chassis?
