Does anyone have any nice pics of either of the XB's that ran in Formula Extreme last year?

I'm having trouble finding some good ones. Thanks in advance.

Try the Roadracing world website. They ran an article on the Hal's bike. Some good pics too. It was in the summer as I recall.

Oh, that's #34 and I first recoqnized it by the shape of the ram air holes above the #.

Uhhhh, well if you say so, I don't see it. I can see the Buell logo in the bottom pic, but what about the other 2 pics? I can see #34 in the 2nd one (not in the lead) but it's really hard to tell the Buells from the other bikes from the front view. Where's the Buell in the first pic? (Why do I feel like I'm playing "what's wrong with this picture"?) ;o)

#13 and #34 are the two Buells.

CLick HERE to check out the event gallery section at www.dcbrag.org for some shots.

Glad I could help, at the time it was hard to find photos of the Buells. Every week they have lots of pics of the races an usually only one had any Buells in it, I suppose having a few DNF's doesn't help.

I was going to circle them in the pics but I figured y'all would figure it out. Just look for the heart shaped air intake on the front.

Yeah thanks for the pics. I guess I couldn't see it because I'm a Buell newbie. I've only had my XB9S for a week now and mine doesn't have an air intake like these race bikes do, and with a fairing on the bikes I cant see that distinctive Buell frame so you really gotta know your Buells to be able to pick 'em out. Thanks for the education!

Dtrain, look at the heart-shaped ram air inlet right above the number on the fairing. That is typical for those buells. They don't always have that though, but if they do, it's a buell. I have never seen another brand with a heart-shaped ram air inlet like that.

I agree it's hard to see but look at it from the other side, do you recognize the Suzuki's from the Yamaha's from the Honda's from the Kawa's, if it weren't from the logo's on the fairing?

And if you get a chance to watch the races and see a rear view, the Buells are the ones without a visible exhaust. The other race bikes have the usual side mount pipes or underseat exhaust.

And if you see 'em from the side, look for the HUGE front brake rotor.

Good point Ingemar... You can most CERTAINLY tell the Buells from the IL4's w/ your eyes closed.

Blake and I were lucky enough to attend the AMA and World Superbike races at Laguna Seca last July. Here is a picture of your humble correspondent sitting on one of the Buell FX bikes:

I was amazed at how much of the bike was stock.

What was the reason they put a full fairing on the XB race bikes?

I am gonna say for aerodynamic reasons but I could be wrong.

Keith,

How much do those ram air hoses interfere with the cockpit dials and lights?

That windscreen with the holes doesn't look like it's homemade. I wonder if it's for sale somewhere.

To hide the flux capacitor!

You know the worst part on these bikes is when someone asks me where the fuel is and I tell them it uses a flux capacitor. Some have actually believed that.

here is the new Hals setup. Good for an extra 5mph apparently. How cool would this be on a road bike: ) Who needs a speedo anyway!

Cataract,

I would imagine the full fairing is for top speed, since these bikes run over 170.

I think that aerodynamically the holes at the bottom of the wind screen are better than the Hal's setup.
