Rocket sez:

"O My gosh, it can be done?! Really? Your research has taken care of it all? Why did we bother to work with four potential suppliers with all their experience and have them build all those failed prototypes when they could have just called you, Rocket? Oh if we had only known!

Which is how and why Alex and Jens succeeded where you didn't. Which kinda proves my point given you know diddly squat about who I am.

Rocket"

I don't know either. Who ARE you (not your name but what are your qualifications?

PS- I would be glad to test one of the new slipper clutches on my Buell 88", and I will not charge a dime because I love the brand that much. I will work the heck out of it (in a controlled scientific manner), and take copious notes.

See, when you have these vexing engineering issues, just call R-MAN, he has the answers.

Think of the money you will save!

I doubt it. I charge. And one thing I never do is sell myself cheap.

You pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

I thought peanuts were an elephant treat. I'm serious though, how much for you to develop an XBRR slipper clutch that works Sean? Yes, this is an official RFQ.

No production costing Blake. Just a one off for my S1W.

Perhaps you should consider designing and making your own. It's pretty simple stuff really to put a few ramps inside a clutch basket.

So you can do one that may or may not hold up on a pissy little S1W, but you won't take a stab at the "RR" part? I thought you said you would/could?

Maybe I'm confused...

Settle down Rocket ;), I only mean "pissy little" compared to the "RR"...

Not production, just development, you know, R&D. I sense you are beginning to cook up a bit of a Yorkshire waffle. I sure don't imagine that getting a slipper clutch to work and survive on an S1W or an XBRR to be as simplistic as you seem to imagine. More the reason for you to prove me wrong though. : )

You guys need to brush up on the workings of slipper clutches. They are after all pretty simple things.

A modified clutch basket with several ramps, maybe some 6mm ball bearings and spacer plates for adjustment.

Nothing a lump of billet and a CNC machine can't take care of.

As for my own effort, I placed it on hold as I've decided to court buyers for the S1W, so thought it pointless to continue.

Mock away. I simply refuse to boast - unlike several here.

Sure sounds easy and simple Sean. It ain't. Designing/prototyping mechanical components that work and last rarely if ever is.

Well if I keep the Buell I might still have a go at making one. I have the basis, and know well a fantastic couple of lads with a really well equipped engineering shop who do a lot of contract work for BAE Systems, who were once upon a time better known as British Aerospace where many of the kids I went to school with served their apprenticeships.

Anything is possible, much is achievable. After all, Buell has its origins in a derelict chapel in North Wales, and look where Graham Dyson (as in Barton Engineering) is NOW and what he's doing. Now I wonder, just wonder, if Graham might have an interest in slipper clutching. I suppose I could always ask.

Never underestimate the Rocket!
