I'm hoping to make my roadracing debut at Blackhawk on the 23-24th.

I don't have to tell you guys how many little things I've been doing to get ready for this important event but one has almost slipped by me. Where to stay?

I'm planning on driving over Friday night so I can do the track walk bright and early Saturday so I need a safe place, I'll have the race bike on the trailer and a place I can get a couple of nights worth of good sleep.

Where do all you racers stay?

Thanks in advance...

There's a group of 6 or 7 (I can't count) Buellers that pit together. A few go home at night and a few more of us camp out. Fairly accommodating place with showers and such. I don't know of anyone that does the hotel deal. In any case, myself, Rocketsprink, M2Guy, Coolice, probably Fiery_XB and a few others will be out there. Should be a good weekend.

I'll be out there. Planning on doing the Friday Test and Tune. May head out Thursday evening. Hotels in the area are ok, but for the price, not really worth it. Steer clear of the Knights Inn. Heard it's pretty crappy. I have an extra tent if you're interested. All ya need is a sleeping bag and an air mattress. Let me know.
Jason. I still have room on the trailer if you're interested.

Jason's right. Showers. Flush toilets. Electrical hook ups. Planning on getting that for the weekend and bringing a small heater or fan to stick in the tent at night, depending on the weather. If it rains. We're sleeping in the trailer. Hell. I may do that even if it doesn't rain.

Gearhead, just come to the track and stay with us. Or leave your bike with us, and get a room. The track is nice and quiet, Sat evening is the Wegman Fund auction/fundraiser. Your very welcome to set up by us, the more Buells, the better!

Thanks for the offer, guys, but I'm not much of a camper and my wife will be with me, also.

I had talked to Coolice at the August races and he suggested I drop of the bike, trailer and canopy with you guys, Friday night, which would be nice not having to worry about everything sitting in the parking lot of a hotel.

Does anyone know how late I could get into the track to do this? I'm 3.1/2 hours away.

Thanks again!!

Hi guys...
Gearhead, I used to stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Beloit at the I-90/43 interchange. Otherwise the next best option is the Ramada Inn on Hwy 75 in South Beloit. They are both $95 or less a nite.

Thanks again!!

Several of my co-workers have asked why I want to go racing and this is the answer. It's in large part because of the people! I haven't even turned a wheel in anger on the track yet but I already feel like part of the community.

Of course it could be that all the sharks are waiting for the new fish to arrive!? : )

Thanks, I'll get back to you guys before the races if I decide to camp.

Yep, Dave, you definately know Janet!!

Frankly, having her with me at the races is more important than the cost of the room, she's 100% behind me on the whole racing desire.

Great to hear the brake pads will be here. I'll be in this weekend, I've got a gremlin on the bike that I hope Reese and I can get figured out in the next day or so. It's always SOMETHING!!

stayed last week at the fairfield inn in beloit, WI about $90/night before a trackday at blackhawk - very nice. easy parking, prob 10-15 min to track. if you have marriott points (which is what i used), its pretty "cheap" at 7500 points/night as a category 1 reward.

If you're still coming Gearhead, I'll be there all day Friday. So at least someone will be there for sure Friday PM and you can drop off your bike. We usually set up by turn 5/6. I have a black enclosed trailer with Ducati Racing on the side.
And "Tapeworks" in rather large white letters.

Thanks for all the help everyone but if the weather forecast doesn't start looking a little drier I probably won't be making the scene.

Right now Saturday looks like the more wet of the two but I have the trailer in the driveway, the tools loaded and the leathers out so if it looks better, I'll be loaded up in 20 minutes and on the road.

With two sets of new Pirelli's but no rains, it's not lack of enthusiasm but lack of experience and the proper tires that would keep me from competing in the wet.

If Sunday looks better, weather wise, I'll be there, although I really wanted to do the track walk with Rick Bruer's class Saturday morning and race in Lightweight Formula-40.

Ya know what? The weather people can go to hell. This is the same type of forecast that made me skip Autoban a few weeks ago.
As usual, they were wrong, and although it did rain that weekend, most of the races were in the dry.
It's Wisconsin. Wait 5 minutes. The weather will change. Could be for the better or worse.
I'm going and taking my chances. If it gets that bad, I'll sit out. But I have rain tires so I'll probably tough it out. Plus there's always a need for help in the pits.
If you wait for nice weather around here, you'll be wasting a lot of free time.
Gee...... maybe I will move back to Arizona with the rest of my family.
5hit. You KNOW it's going to be hot, but you KNOW you don't have to plan around rain!!
See ya all at the Track! See ya all next year that can't make it. Also, please don't take this post to heart. It's not directed at anyone. Just my observation.

Never let the forecast determine your plans!
They are wrong more times than they are right.
Go anyway and like Rocco says, if it rains just don't race if you don't want to.
If it turns out to be dry you'll be mad you didn't go.

Go Buell!(and Ducati,Rocco)
