WOW.....I guess we DO need another 1000 rpm....Blake , goading is quite possible , but after looking at my schedule it looks like Mid-Ohio is my best bet , even though I have free room and board about an hour and a half away in Birmingham. So heres the deal.....If you can get over to Ohio I will pick up the Rental Car and Hotel and YOU have to drive the damn thing and buy all the Food(and Beer!)This time its not necessarily a matter of finances for me(cause a simple thing like can't stop me from races!) but of time away ,so this is just a goading attempt at swaying your work schedule.I've used up all my Vacation but by that time I should have 3 days or so and I can fly and sleep at night so as not to use up important picture time doing that!Wellll?????Southwest has great deals!!!!!Well???.....(Severe goading coming up!!)

Anyone have any idea what's going on with the Buells in qualifying? The transponder data from the AMA web site showed both bikes not on the track for the majority of their respective sessions and some disappointing lap times.

Nevermind!
Steve's best was a 1:30.6 which will put him in 13th or 14th.
The AMA site finaly updated their live transponder times

Excellent site. It's great to see Picotte so involved with Buell. Maybe we can see him climb on one eventually.

SBK - Mladin, Spies, Yates in various orders but no surprises there.

WHEN are Honda and Kawasaki going to build decent race bikes instead of those POS bikes that the Haydens, Zemke and DuHamel are being forced to race?

(KIDDING!)

Until Picotte's contract with Yamaha for Canadian Superbike is over or gets renegotiated he won't be on a Buell.

Originally he intended to race the Daytona 200 himself until Yamaha called foul.

Pascal was the nicest and most approachable guy in the paddock. It's a shame the VR1000 didn't have enough in it to keep him at the front. Here is an older article about his first year back in the Canadian series while visiting an AMA series race.

http://www.cyclenews.com/ShowStory.asp?HeadlineID=4841

“I would like to be able to get back to the U.S,”

“It’s not like unfinished business, but I wasn’t ready to go back home already."

Maybe Buell/HD will get him back over here sometime in the future. Maybe for that fabled Buell SuperBike ride.
We sure do miss him.

Either Steve seems to prefer the conventional dual disc setup or the high-end Ohlins forks don't have ZTL2 carriers available yet.

The Deeley/Picotte team has done a good job painting the tail section soooo it doesn't look so big.

Picotte imparting wisdom.

Nice rig.

So how was the racing? What were the starting positions for the RR's and where did they end up? How'd they look at speed? Any inside scoop about the racing effort? ... 62 seconds is a pretty big gap to the leaders; was there any mechanical issues? Thanks.

Wow, Pete's website is awesome.

Some quick thoughts on the event.

It gets bigger and better every year, this year Friday looked like Saturday last year and Saturday looked like Sunday in terms of the size of the crowd. Last year the three day attendance was over 40,000, I'm sure they beat that.

The promoters did an excellent job, providing a jumbotron between turns 3 & 4 so we could watch the rest of the race. It was even on Friday and Saturday during practice/qualifying which was great.

We rode down Friday got to the track at around 4 pm and quickly found Carlos and Brankin campsite, then later Pete and Robin came by and we walked into the paddock.

Friday night the promoter had a "Fan Party" at the Speed TV trailer, with a bunch of riders for the autograph session and they gave away a bunch of prizes for answering AMA trivia questions. Carlos, Brankin, Linda and I did that.

Being the race geek that I am I did pretty well, scoring three t-shirts and some Jordan Suzuki gloves. After a while they stopped looking in my direction cause I always had my hand raised.

I missed out on the $100 prizes and the final prize, an Arai helmet autographed by all the riders.

The question was "who was the original big Kahuna?" Ralph Sheheen from SpeedTV pointed at me, and I blanked, the guy next to me said "Anthony Gobert" and took away the helmet.

After that, Brankin, Carlos Linda and I rode out of the track down to Roxboro, NC for some down home cooking.

Along the way we almost got caught in a speed trap and while riding between tobbaco fields were drenched by irrigation equipment, which fortunately was just pumping out plain water and not some biological experiment.

Like I said we were looking for some good typical NC food, and that Mexican place was awesome!

Saturday:

We decided to walk around the pits and track, stopping every person with some Buell swag on to let them know to meet us in front of Mike Hales's Wildwood/Millville HD truck during the lunch break for a group picture.

I figured we would get five people but I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout. Mike was very nice and agreed to get in the shot with us and individually with whoever wanted to. Then we all walked over to the Picotte/Deeley Buell Pit and did the same with both Steve and later Pascal. They were all pleased to see so many people turn out to wish them well.

After that we were trying to decide where to watch the Superbike race from. It was hot and humid and we were thirsty.

So we decided to crash the Suzuki hospitality tent!

Actually Linda and I both have SV's so we were able to bring in Carlos and Brankin as guests.

So we watched that race there, but then moved over to turn 4 to watch the FX race from there. It was a good race at the front and Steve had a great battle with two other bike and put a clean pass on both of them right in front of us, ending the race with a stoppie and a burnout, after finishing 11th.

I'm afraid of what he'll do to that bike if he gets a top 5!

After the race we went back into the pits to tell both teams thanks for being there and doing their best, and look for oil leaks (just kidding).
