'preciate some help here. I'm interesting in CCS racing but don't really know where to start. I've been to race school. I have an XB9R, stock. I'm seeking info on what classes I can race and what are the basic mods I must do to line up. I'm not really looking for victory lane, just the opportunity to line up and get some experience. Thanks. p.s. I've been to the CCS site and forum and have not gotten the answers I need.

Rubberdown,
Basics to get up and running are bike prep.
Safety wire all fluid bolts, drain plugs etc. there is a rule book available on the ccs website under "forms"
I've done caliper mounting bolts.
banjo bolts, axle bolts, oilfilter (hose clamp wired to bike), crankcase drain.
filler caps are also included in this.
Running the bike stock is not a bad idea for starting, you can always make mods as you improve! race plastic up front with #'s and race plastic in the rear for #s
Remove all lights, headlight, tail light, turnsignals.
# plates are acceptable if you don't want to invest in race plastic for the rear, but if you ever plan on riding it on the street, it's probally a good idea to get.
remove kick stand.
A new set of race dot's, which will last you a few weekends.
Friends to come and cheer you on!!

Ater looking at Buellrcr's bike, reminded me that you also need a belly pan, might as well get a complet set of race plastic.

If Mike does buy a XBRR, you can always use that picture from the trip down to Daytona as blackmail in order to make him let you ride the XBRR.

IF I race anything other than my bicycles....it'll be my 9R which has all I need. I'm not sure I can swing it, but if I can I might ($$$). Where can I get a belly pan? I would like to do this AND keep the bike in a state where it can be made street legal again without a big ordeal. I don't think I would need a full fairing for the entry level classes, correct me if I'm wrong. I can race the lightweight F-40 (over 40 class, I'm 45) but if it's anything like bicycle racing, those guys are the most experienced. That's the class I usually race on the bicycle. I'm thinking towards the end of the season would be a good time to jump in, as early seasons jitters and rashness would be spent and some guys will have wadded their shit and gone home. Besides I could not have my mess together before then. Thinking, mulling, pondering.

I too want to race my stock 9. Like you, not looking for podium, just the experience. I'm going to get a few trackdays under my belt, then the school. I'm shooting for next year and the southwest circut.

Just a tip from my friends. If you invest $$$, go for the suspension/tires before you do anything engine wise. I agree that this $ will make you faster than the engine could.

I would also check around and find out which races people like myself are going to be at. Since I have a tendency to shoot (photos) at the races, it can help with sponsors/promotion of your racing dream. If nothing else, they can be nice momentos' or reminders of your time out there..

Now I'm usually at the Mid-Atlantic type events (Summit Point, VIR etc.) and don't get to the other tracks.. but I do wish I could. But there are other shutterbugs here that should be able to help you out at tracks near you.

You can also spend money on a 'pro'.. But I'd suggest a BadWebber like myself since we usually work for Soda, Beer, Munchies.. (once I got a really big pay off.. A T-Shirt! Thanks to Art Diaz for that one)or a place of 'honor' (thanks Liberty H-D and Edison H-D for those.. I still need to get up there and see them)

That's my 2/100 of a $ .. Drifting on the more business side, but hey, it's also something you'll have to think about.. Unless your wealthy and don't need sponsors or support in any way..

Mr. Rubber,

I'll be doing some track days at CMP, VIR, & Road Atlanta this year. I'm seriouly thinking about racing in a year or two; it will probably be on a Gixxer 750 instead of the M2 though. Let me know by e-mail when you do your track days (I don't always keep up w/BadWeather posts). I usually go w/a couple other guys, one on a XB9 & one on a Gixxer 750. The Gixxer guy has been racing a couple years already & is doing better than I ever will.

I wouldn't worry about the suspension. Stock, set up right, will work fine. If you want to get more serious, then upgrade. Godfather stuff (body work) is your best bet. IF you go down, better to scrape that stuff up as opposed to your street bodywork which will be more $$$$ to replace. You could always get in touch with Henry Duga from Buell for a belly pan. I think they're around $200.Go to www.ccsracing.us. Register and ask questions there. Not knocking this board, but you'll probably get more answers from there due to everyone there being racers.

Threads like this one really get me fired up as I too want to take a stab at running a race or two if for no other reason than to see if I really have the stuff. It's one of those things I want to check off my life list!

I'm going to licensing school on April 1st with TrackAddix at Mid America MotorPlex. Right now I'm just praying for decent weather, it's still pretty cool here in Iowa.

I'm interested in Formula 40 as well. I figure the guys who race in that class are either longtime racers who don't want to bang handlebars with the young whippersnappers or guys like me who've been looking for a chance to race. I figure the fast guys will be people I can learn from by watching their lines, etc. and like myself have to get up and go to work the next day and are paying their own way also.

I haven't found an XB to convert yet but the search continues.

bare minimum to take on track (to race) - ck your local licensing org or track to make sure though!

tape up all lights/mirrors/signals

add bellypan

safety wire crankcase plug, swingarm plug, and oil filter w/clamp

get new tires (or make sure yours have 80+% tread)

and once you get your license, add your race numbers, and GO RACING!

Last year I had my bike setup to go from race trim to street fairly easily, but not street LEGAL. Big difference. If you want to be completely legal every time you get back on the road you will be doing a lot of wrenching every time to the track and then back to the street. Can become very time consuming, it did for me. This year I decided to go 100% with a race bike. I've accumillated so many parts over the last few years that I can practically build another bike for the street. Anyone know where I can get my hands on a motor and trans?

Xbcrazy - agreed, i also just picked up a bike to use as a dedicated track/racebike. i didnt want to do the street vs track prep over and over again, nor did i want to toss around my street bike.

but for those who just want to try out their first trackday, i think its possible to do minimal mods on a street bike and try it out.

Bring the cheap spares that'll leave you stranded when broken; brake and clutch levers, shift lever, brake pedal, foot pegs. A few $$ worth of parts that'll save a $2-300 track day if you drop it. And those spares are nice to have "just in case" anyway.

Thanks for the idea Pete, any chance you have one of those laying around? FYI- it can bolt into an XB frame with no problem, the XBRR is running a stock Uly frame. Got to see it up front and personal last week in Daytona. It is very cool!
