on another note, if, lets say we could figure it out, would you(Dave) be interested in trucking out to the flats???there seems to be a growing trend, and since you have the rig, and i dont mind driving and helping with gas, maybe just maybe we could get you a semi vacation while creating a tax write off for the boss(advertising) and get a bunch of people in the 130 club, some thing to think about??
if we dont plan early, it will never get off the ground, Bomber and i considered it, but we lack a tow vehicle, and there is no way i am riding the bike 2000 miles(not enuff time i dont think)
so what do you say, not looking for a firm yes, a maybe would be fine with me

Dyna,

I am having similar thoughts, as I am NOT looking forward to trying to conquer Nebraska again, with or without 40 degrees and rain... too damn flat if you ask me.

I do not own a truck, yet, I think Doc at Doc's HD might be very very interested in this entire endeavor. At some point here (maybe after the holidays) I am going to call him up and see if he might like a Brag chapter... and/ or some involvement in Team Elves.

He and his daughter have been drag racing Harleys and Buells for years.

Question: Something I find hard to comprehend is seeing the 450 HP turbocharged Busa hit 240 MPH compared to the 1650 RR (HP unknown but nowhere near 450 HP) hit 208 MPH. Either streamlining has a TON to do with this scenario and/or the Busa simply isn’t hooking up. Is there some sort of formula available to figure out how many ponies you need to theoretically hit a certain speed in a specific distance, given the drag and gearing?

Just curious and serious,

With equal aero's, it takes 76% more power to go 245 than it does to go 203.

Dividing 400 by 1.76 comes up with a number that's still bigger than what we had. Many possibilities come to mind: he really had something less than 400hp, his gearing was wrong, the Richard Factor, etc.

Aaron, you guys ever consider picking up a used Busa, slapping a turbo or whatever on it & giving it to Richard for a run on the salt? Just strictly for kicks, who knows what the hell you guys could come up with.

Hey Greg,

Not speaking for "anyone" buy myself of course, I would think the turbo Busa suggestion would undermine the entire concept of Team Elves and what it stands for.

Team Elves put in place initial goals each year for Bonneville and has accomplished or outshine every one of them. That’s quite an achievement in itself considering the short time they've tried. Even more so if you consider how it was formed and the diversity of the group.

Plus it ain’t over yet,

Jim, I wouldnt think it would undermine the Buell concept at all. They after all did accomplish what they set out to do. A rag tag bunch of misfits made a Buell go over 200 mph. Thats cool as hell.

I say get a Busa or similar machine & see what they can do with it, just strictly for shits & giggles. Wouldnt it be cool if this Pro-Buell group took & Busa & beat the other teams at their own game?:D

"the Richard Factor"

The man who Court calls "dangerously smart" gives testimony to the fact it's not all machine. The mystery of speed also includes the human element.

When Team Elves formed it was my understanding that if the bike doesn't come from East Troy we don't race it. Period.

I hope the Suzuki guys do that. Frankly, one of the highlights of this year was the Hayabusa rider who, looking down his nose at Richard, quippped "I just ran a 198", what'd that Buell do?" You can finish the story yourself.

I think the Hayabusa, althogh lacking the Buell's aerodynamics, would be a fun bike at Bonneville for someone who has an interest in them.

I have none and, given early indications, Vickie and I are already starting to work on next year and are going to have our hands full.

Come on, you guys pick one up & I will ride it:D Save you some of the burden.

Course those barstools looked pretty cool to. 47 mph is damn fast on something with no stability at all.

Let me say this about Bonneville......

The idea that a Hayabusa is a shoe-in, just because it's a powerful motorcycle has pretty much proved a falsehood.

Additionally, lots of folks who consider themselves "excellent" riders have pulled some absolutely stupid stunts under the false thinking that Bonneville consists of nothing more that getting on a bike and cranking a throttle WFO.

Bonneville rewards those who PLAN and THINK and has a cruel way of sending the others home.

I've been trying to take a 3 week break between 2002 and 2003 but, given the stack of shirts on the table to ship today and the two inquiries I've received about serious class racing efforts, will have no such luck. At least Aaron gets to leave the country for a week :).

HINT: If you are thinking about RIDING at Bonneville next year, start by standing in front of a mirror. One of the greatest "speed gimmicks" is to "tune thyself"....I'd quote Richard Nallins words to Fireman Jim (who appeared fit and lean at The Salt this year) but I'd embarass them.

TEAM ELVES, just so we keep this conversation from lingering beyond it's natural half-life, was created to and shall focus on providing support for preparation and competition on Buell American Motorcycles to showcase the Buell's unique attributes, the uncommon shared passion of their owners and to serve as a focal point for fellowship for similarly minded people around the Earth.

Any questions?

I have pictures of a midget couple who races barstools and pictures of a streamliner barstool. When the midget pushed the stool to the line it's actually taller than he is. You might see anything there and I do mean anything. And consider might Charlotte might be there... WOW. :)

Barstool with a Buell motor? Er better yet with a Busa motor and Dyna at the seat?

The great thing about all this is our trip to East Troy has infected others to join us next September. It could well be the grandest Buell event... ever!

I kinda like Choptops way of thinking. Get records in the slow classes. barstools would be cool. I gotta look into that deal.

And thats just great, now i have Court saying Im outta shape!! Ok let me see, where did i put that thighmaster??

Dyna: Check out NO BRA (National Organization of Bar Stool Racing in America) and you can learn alot HERE. I say again....REGARDLESS of speed or vehicle, The Salt punishes, without mercy, punishes the ill prepared and those who fail to show proper respect.

Just a thought.....I have Rex Chaney on this team (albeit, quietly in the background) for good reason.

PLAN....PLAN....FOCUS.....FOCUS....PLAN
