How to Get Dave Despain to the Elves Pits:

Mention to him the stunning 6'3" SuperModel riding a 1942 WLA with a sidecar. That's a story, and a visual, he be hard pressed to pass up !!!

Court, et al

There should be no problem gettin Dave Despain to the elves pits. We plan on setting up as close to you guys as the line allows Thursday morning. Best advice is to feed the cameraman. Remember Dave and the crew are working too. This is their job and they are damn good at it. The last time anyone heard from them they were planning on two whole days on the salt, which is forever for a crew on the road as much as they are. My feeling is they will be collecting lots of video for more than one show. Making a weekly show is hard work and they don't waste any time.

So guys,

We're havin' a GREAT time here. America and my new found friends here were well worth the maiden flight. -it's no coincidence all my travels were planned by bike or car-
The Sportster guys showed up, and Jim the fireman before them, accompanied by Rod. Great guy too, this Jim; he incorporates everything I expected in a typical American and more!
That's not to take away anything from the rest of the mob. as I said; "WE'RE HAVING A BLAST"!

Sorry to say the dynorun for Rays' sidecar Blast! didn't work out for them.
After some judicial prodding with the bike, the top-end was stripped down due to a suspected malfunction of the inlet-vulve, errrr..., valve. -pardon the pun, I'm just Your tipical cheese-head Dutchman-
Their suspicion proved correct.

After fitting new valves, our typical BIG Englishman in all his tired-from-keeping-us-up wisdom, noticed that the inlet-valveseat was cracked.
Nallins' has been called, and the cilinderhead will be brought/posted to them as soon as possible to have it returned to us on the Salt by Thursday?
Bummer, that is. Yet better to be able to solve it now, than having to find out later.

The Sportster-mob ran in to a little leakage roundabout the starter. Bike put out 101 bHp before that, though. And that's an entirely new engine that'll probably have to loosen up, and nothing's been done to the jetting or timing.
They got the primary off, -doesn't that sound familiar Jilles!?- and I hear it running on the dyno as I'm writing this to You Buelligans...
They also brought the higher-spec bike, and I'm anxious to find out how It'll perform.

Jims' bike seems promising. Finish on it is, and I mean, IMMACULATE. Looks like a bike right off the Snap-On calendar.
Only thing missing is the well-shaped blonde to go with it. :( -2 weeks without the missus-
I'll settle for a brunette, though. ;)

Court;

Nice to talk to You via telephone! Sorry Henriks' coverage isn't up to todays' standards, though... ;)
-He'll be off running to the "telephone-hut", or whatever stores You're packing here, now.-
Make sure You keep some shirts and jerseys apart for some of our gang!

How's Aaron been keeping up You ask me?
Well, considering the amount of people that've been pulling his jersey and keeping him up all night; amazingly well! -Well, the "keeping him up all night" is down to one LARGE kid, to be honest.-
We'll try and keep him out of the wind, though.

Can't wait for Bonnie and the rest of You guys,

Jilles.

Jack:

Just you GUYS !

I've been on the phone with Richard Nallin (who, by the way, is in Canada retreiving a 1963 Corvette) and he is "Whoop Ass Wound-up".

Talked to Henrik....things in Denver.....well, would indicate a good time for all in Bonneville, PLUS some very fast motorcycles. We spoke between dyno runs.

Rocket is generating "back in America" stories at a rate alarming for this early in the event.

Busier than heck here continuing to load and tracking the5 shipments on the way.

Wanna know what kind of a day it's been?.....I am ending the day by calling Dave Gess for excitement?????

Be careful, have fun and, most of all, enjoy the wonderful friendships you've created.

Court,

I don't have your number. I am back to prepping bikes tonite. I can call late. E-mail at paulehd@hotmail.com. We have had a bad day. The Buell needs a complete tear down. We have aluminum dust in the oil. It looks like we missed something in the bottom end right now. we are not chancing it this time. Hopefully we can get it ready for October meet. Won't know until we tear it down next week. Major bummer. Jack and Donnie have literally hundreds of hours in that engine.

Take care, we're still got three xr's and will be there.

Busy day in the shop today. Three bikes being intensely prepared simultaneously. It got crazy for awhile. The sounds of a bike being dyno'ed, the compressor running, grinders and welders going, people cussing and tripping over each other (I need a bigger shop!), it was a great time! Here's some pics ...

Ray

We got Ray on the dyno late yesterday (well, his bike), and we tuned the bejeezus out of it, but we could tell the bike was never really right. We finally gave up, rolled it off, figured that was as good as we could get it, then did a leakdown for kicks and immediately realized something was wrong. The failure was bizarre, a "never fails" part failed, for no apparent reason. But we've got it under control, it'll be racing on Friday.

FMJ's bike

Rocket, Peter, FMJ, and I worked pretty hard all afternoon on FMJ's new exhaust system. There was a lot of competition for the welder and drill press and chop saw at times. We got it done, though. We'll roll it on the dyno tomorrow.

Sportster boys

The Sportster team was focused on Synder's bike all day. They fought a few things here and there, got'em under control, and they feel like they've got about everything out of it that is has to give, at least with it's current set of bumpsticks. They'll roll Crim/Art's 100" monster onto the dyno tomorrow.

OH YOU BASTARDS! are having to much fun!!
I wish I could be there!!!!!!

Can any one tell me what the minimum size is for the numbers on the number plate? I'm trying to whip something up for Deb's bike. (are they needed?) She's doing the 130 club.

I'm usually more in tune with an event but with everything that has been going on, I dont hardly have time to breath. We are leaving Wednesday evening and driving through the night.

Mike and Debbie and I will meet up with Matt and Gerod on Friday in Wendover. Whats happening thursday? Oh Ya, Mike and I will be changing the oil on his new Centenial Daytona somewhere on the road or when we get there. Probly have to bribe a gas station to dump the oil.

Keep up the good work, Bob

Buellnuts - Last year I made number plates for the 130 club with masking tape and a black pen found at the event.

According to the book:

For "7.B General Equiptment Standards: 7.B.1 Number/classes: two (2) designation plates are required, one on each side. Minimum plate dimensions are 6" high and 8" wide with the four corners cut off at a 1" radius. Plates must be securely mounted and completely visible from either side while the rider is in the riding position. All entry numbers must be a minimum of 5" high and 1" wide. All class designation characters must be at least 1" high. Class designation must be clearly displayed on the plate."

I can't make it. I came up with some hair brained schemes; but, it's just not in the cards for me. I did an inventory and I've spent too much time/money on getting partial custody of this little guy and the fight's far from over. He deserves a good life

Richard is in Toronto, Canada. . PICKING UP A 1963 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE.

QUESTION: Would YOU want Richard Naillin picking up and delivering YOUR Corvette?

This concerns me :)....I'd prefer DAVE GESS pick up MY Corvette

SuperModel and Sidecar
The SuperModel brings the WLA into the "pits"

We spent a few hours in the parking lot of an un-used building at Mather AFB on sunday. We were asked to leave one parking lot near the flight line when the Triumph was making too much noise. Seems as though they couldnt hear the jet engines running up. HA !!!

Got some good practice in. All is ready. Tonight we change the oil in all the bikes, and start piling up gear and supplies. Checking final check lists, and going over the rule book ONE LAST TIME.

Sounds like ya'll are having too much fun at Aaron's. Wish I was there. We're on teh road early Thursday. Should hit the Salt by 3pm or so that evening. Save us a spot in the pits !!!!

Court,

Still need a number for you. I will be driving out, leaving tomaorrow and will have cell phone with me. Its 1350 miles so call me if you still need to talk. Paul (MadDuck) Elliott 309-737-4211. Chuck Berryhill came over and spent all night tearing down the Buell. We are assembling again today and it looks real good. No major damage, just a bad crank. We are going back to the configuration we had for the bottom end in June before we had that one last really good idea.

I think we are no out of bottome end parts. If anyone has any Buell lettering and/or a TeamElves logo, I would really like to put them on my bike. Yet another thing I didn't get done.

Take care Yall.

I knew I should have said "Screw it!" and not promised to work Monday and Tuesday. If I had left Friday after work I could currently be enjoying the Colorado twisties and mountains while everyone is slaving away in Aaron's shop. Not that I wouldn't offer to help, but mainly to stay out of everyone's way.

I can't emphasizes enough how much I NEED this trip and am looking forward to it. The seeminly endless travel and 10-12 hour work days are killing me and have left very little time for a "life" this year. Everyone, help me "live" this week. Let's make this a trip we can tell our grandkids about...when they are of reasonable age anyway! :]

C u Thursday night sometime.

Bob
