Henrik, Okay sounds like a plan. Not sure how many bikes I'm bringing. If more than one I'll have a trailer too. If not it'll just be the truck and one scooter. I'll keep you posted.

AW, Can I purchase Salt-Away from you since you already have a sprayer unit set up? If so ping me off board and I'll send $$$.

TEAM ELVES ENTRY FEES

I have only received two submissions for entry fees and they are from FMJ and Ray German. Payments have been sent. For those of you who are getting your stuff ready to turn in don't forget that we need a copy of the bike registration to the USFRA(not your medical form :-) and a copy of your check or recipt for the entry fees.

FMJ, Did you solve your fees issue with USFRA? The amount you turned in for your bike appears to be correct.

I have enough Salt-Away to share, no worries mate.

I sent in two entries for WOS ... one for the Blast and another for the RR1650S2. I didn't make copies though. I kinda assumed reimbursement would come when I showed up at the salt flats with 2 bikes ready to race, that'd serve as proof I paid and proof I'm really racing. Whatever, we can deal with it.

Jim Bantz,I don't know if Court told y'all(Gettin my louisiana accent ready) but Team Elves is OFFICIALLY SPONSORED by Saltaway.I just recieved 2 large boxes from them and will be sending them off to Aaron's place as I know more of you will be coming from that direction.I spoke to Lenore at Saltaway(Great gal) a couple of weeks ago about getting some product. She inquired what I was using it for and where I heard about it.She was very excited to hear about Bonneville. She told me they had been trying to break into other markets(they do very well in marine market).I laughingly asked if she was interested in sponsoring me.She told me --"you may be laughing, but I am serious.I would be interested in the wholE team. How many bikes are you taking?"I gave her a rough count from Court and she sent 5 gallons,5 quarts, and several applicators.Decals are in the making. So we will have ALL the Saltaway Team Elves can use.

Entry fee was $275 plus $15 course prep fee, if postmarked by 7/15. Plus the membership fee of like $35. Entry fees went up to $350 + cpf on 7/16. I got both mine in by the 15th, so I spent $550 plus $30.

Aaron...two bikes from us for the dyno...but mainly working one...just checking the other quickly...their will be 3 of us at your place, myself & the wife...she'll gladly help Susan with whatever, & Art.

Our riders think they are like Nascar & Cart now...can jet to the races! Lol!

Got it ... thanks ... looking forward to seeing y'all again.

Tell us about this 80" bike. Snyder is riding it? What classes is he going after? What kind of heads? Cams? Exhaust? I'll just turn you loose on the dyno again, you've run it enough to be expert status. You should have plenty of time to get everything out of it, looks like it's just the two bikes you're bringing and Ray's Blast that we need to tune. Assuming my stuff is done (a big assumption).

This is going to be fun ... our biggest turnout so far, TV coverage, celebrities, at least 5 Team Elves race bikes, 130 club bikes, XR750's, etc. Can't wait!

Any of the Sportster list gang going for the 130 club? They ought to, it gives everyone a chance to participate and have some fun.

Aaron,

Anything you would want at Bonneville but just don't have room for?? I think our crew is bringing a big generator and air tools etc. If anything comes to mind holler and I'll see if we can bring it. Between you, the sportster crew and us we should be capable of everything but rough casting.

I bought a small generator for charging the bike's battery and what not, we can even charge it while we're in line. The only other thing is a compressor, but Woz will probably bring one. We should be pretty well set.

Paul..we needed a machine shop on the Salt for the XR we brought out last year. Luckily I had a spare set of pistons that we had got from Aaron earlier in the year. It ate one on it's first outing. Dardest thing I've ever seen...a motor making a whole piston disappear! Luckily, Ron Lindquist had showed up & parked beside our pit with a big bread truck with an board machine shop darn near!

Anyway, between all the teams & the car folks which are a really nice group of people, their should be no want for getting anything..though some Teams have had to make the drive back to Slat lake on occasion!

Aaron, yes, Jim will be riding the 80 inch bike. It has a custom extended frame.....put some extra inches into the swingarm area.

It uses Buell heads...of course....though I'm having trouble identifying them exactly, they look to be X1 heads with the FI sensor lead on the rear head. I have the part numbers. Nice big honking valves, port work by Hq's, Axtell cylinders with JE pistons & the same type HQ XL0043 cams I ran last year. I'll tell you about that later.

As of now, we will experiment with exhaust..I'm all for cut off drag pipes, Jim wants to try his Rich Products LSR 2-1 pipe too. I'm also gonna try some variations on carb cover...velocity stack, AC cover, & even using a bread box.

Jim & George keep telling me what 1350 class they are targeting, but I'll have to leave that one to Jim..I always forget it...it's not the same when you are building your own racer.

No, we have no one doing the 130 or 150 clubs...but that might be fun next year. Hmmm...maybe I can fit my own ride into Art's trailer for that.

Some pics of the motor work & the frame are here, posted on the XL-List also:

Hey, I resemble that remark !!

Dale said, "Our riders think they are like Nascar & Cart now...can jet to the races!"

It's kinda like being a factory racer, fly in, race the bike, fly home...

Actually my mode of transportation is still up in the air, Crim will be flying (I bet his arms get tired)

I only have so many days off and even with FMLA (I take care of my Mom who's in her 80's, put my Dad in a nursing home last yr) they still take all vaca days accumulated. I would love to take a full 2-3 weeks and do it all, but I won't have a job when I get back, then the creditors come and take all my stuff away from me, those bastidges.

Anyway we are going for the unfaired classes, M/PF + M/PG in 1350cc. Next year the 100 inch motor will slide over to my chassis and we'll be chasing down the 200 mph mark. It will require a full fairing and NO2 most likely... so we'll butt heads then.

Hey, is anybody here interested in buying some of our coffee cups? They are a high quality item, and you can get them from our LSR store.

http://lsr.sportster.org/store/

Buy a pair so the one doesn't get lonely...

I dunno about all y'all, but I'm very impressed with this motor. Making that kind of power, 1.56 per ci, on a 100 inch motor and 1 carb is not trivial. Wes knows his stuff. He nailed it right out of the box, too, this is the bike's first visit to the dyno. I'm ecstatic with the result.

It's really strange, though, to get a result and not immediately start thinking about how to get more. I have to keep telling myself that getting more is not what's important here. We're only going for the fuel class. The level of horsepower I need to go 200 is well within the reach of this motor on nitrous. And really, when you get to these speeds, even 5hp means almost nothing anyway. The extra time I'd put on the motor to nudge the power up, and the associated risk, is much more important than a little more power. So I've got to deprogram myself, forget about trying that other carb or whatever, and just concentrate on getting the bike as ready as I know how to get it. Seems weird.

Yeah, save the 200 mph gas run for next year. It looks to be within your reach. Let that thing breath and it looks to pull RWHP well into the 160's on gas alone. Add a bit of ram intake and your there. Sounds so easy on paper don't it? :D

160hp ain't gonna get us to 200mph. And I want to see Richard make the 200 club.

The motor is as good as I know how to make it, so we're going for it. They key is to add just enough nitrous to do it without adding so much that we blow it up. I could easily add 100hp with nitrous. For a few seconds.

The real problem is torque. As you know, when you add hp without adding rpm, you're adding torque, and torque is what twists things off.

Trust me, you don't want to be getting into the rev limit when you're on nitrous. It's set at 7500, at Richard will have strict instructions to keep it under 7000.

That was static RWHP. Ram intake? Next year? Yooooo cahn dooooo eeeeeet. :]

Whooo! Yikes! She's putting out over 160 FT-LBs of torque!!

As to that HP/Displ ratio... Dude, your M2 is putting out 1.55 HP/CI.

So are you planning to make a run for some gas records too, or just the fuel and 200+mph goal? Which one's first? I can't help it, I love this stuff. You're lucky I'm not already camped out at your place pestering you like a little kid with all my questions.

166ft/lbs to be precise. That's what scares me!

Hp per ci gets tougher as you get bigger. This motor is substantially bigger than the M2's. And the M2 is a pretty healthy motor, too.

I'm running the fuel class only. I'll be cheering for FMJ in the gas class. I may have Richard do a shakedown sans nitrous, to look for problems and evaluate wheelspin and such, but then it'll be all on the bottle, and we'll be classed in fuel regardless.

I only did 16 pulls with it yesterday. Very first pull, with the jetting WAY out in the weeds (although I had guessed pretty close on the timing), it made 142hp!

No ram intake, don't need it, hp is not an issue. Although the nice thing about making more on gasoline is that you don't have to carry as much nitrous. I think we're there, though, I don't forsee nitrous capacity as being an issue.

That's great!

The ram air comment was a suggestion for the gas-only 200+mph attempt next year. :]

Hey Aaron... Once Richard does the deed as planned, I wanna see you crank the laughing gas up a bit more and pilot it past 200 mph yerownself!!! Even having never met you face to face, I know you well enough to know that you want to. Are you grinning? I knew you would.

Jees;

I take off for a week to see the nations best at the Belleville Midget Nationals and I come back to see that my name is used in vain. :)) (That's speedcars for you Aussie) :)) I've sent info to Henrick about our effort. It's great fun and I look forward to seeing all of you at the Salt. Pictures should be available in a couple of weeks. The sidecar and the Blast got married during the Nationals and other than a few minor adjustments all looks good.
