Uh, I dunno guys, striving and achieving are two different things. Witness the first passes last year for both the RR and the Blast ... I had both WAY too rich ... that was easily corrected and both bikes set new records, but neither bike really achieved it's potential due to other mistakes I made (vacuum leak on the RR and lack of a rev limiter on the Blast).

Sigh. You work hard, you test, you work hard some more, and something slips by. Seamlessly perfect performances like we had in '00 are hard to come by.

But, tell you what, I know and have always known racers who thrash the night before a race putting their motor together. Or even do it at the event. I just can't operate that way, doesn't work for me.

Aaron-

My buddy does that same morning type of thrashing. I had volunteered to support his racing for an ENTIRE STINKIN' SEASON if he'd just show up with a kart that only needed fuel. He couldn't do it and lost a FREE TRACK SLAVE FOR A YEAR. I can't handle the last minute stuff.

I'm gonna try super-hard to be at the salt this year. Loli and I will just pack the crap outta (or onto!) the big bike and hopefully be there to be the waterboy or something...

BTW, Front wheel must be cross ventilated and the fender can't cover more than the top half of the wheel.

Do a couple holes count for cross ventilated? By that criteria a solid disk wheel like on a Fatboy wouldn't qualify.

Blake: 25% of the nominal rim circle area has to be open. Wheel discs are not permitted.

Todd: no, this is a motor that Cycle-Rama built up for road racing. I acquired it this spring. It's now undergoing a transformation to a land speed motor.

No, I don't have nitrous plans for the Blast, at least not this year.

I might put it on this bike, though ...

The rider's view. You wouldn't believe how much wiring that nitrous system takes. It takes days to wire it up. 7 relays altogether. Lots of interlocks, and qualifying signals with other signals to make it foolproof (can't activate without arm, can't arm without fuel pump, no fuel pump unless solenoid valve is open, plus purge solenoid, automatic retard circuit, controller bypass circuitry, etc etc). Got it all done today.

Okay, Pammy, I'm ready for the motor!

The bodywork is fitted, now I just gotta put all that mechanical stuff in there.

Actually, I'll be using a different pair of fairing lowers, they'll require some mods.

Swingarm lengthening should be done soon, doing 4" over to help hold the front end down, front end lift is a problem at these speeds.

Tony, the picture makes'em look bigger than they are, they're standard 4" by 12" or so, 2.5lbs each. That *should* be enough, but I may try to squeeze another bottle onto the bike directly in front of rear wheel, we'll see after the whole motor/rear wheel assembly is in there.

Court: nah, my workmanship ain't that great, fabrication has never been my strong suit. Labels? Oh, I stuck a few private/inspirational messages in there for Richard. A common practice/old tradition in race cars. You need to come to the event if you want to read them!

If anyone is planning on running an XB9R at Bonneville, I have a nugget for you...

Per EB - the XB's ECU keeps close tabs on head temp. The bike regularly pulls to around 135 mph (not sure of the revs). If you sit there and the motor starts to get too warm, the ECU richens the mix. The resultant power drop gets you down around 7100 or 7200 RPM. Low 130's I think.

Don't know if this matters to anyone... Don't quote me on the numbers, either, though they should be in the ballpark.

What is the timeline like for signing up to race, paying fees, and the like?

I think about a half dozen Buellers from the NW will be going to watch and run in the clubs.

Your entry should be completed as soon as possible. For all the forms and information go to the www.teamelves.com website, go to the links and check out the USFRA site.

If, after checking that out, you still have questions, come on back and we'll sort them out.

Be sure to give attention to the medical requirements and what you need in terms of gear.

Be aware that there are differing requirements for RECORD RUNS than for the 130MPH and 150MPH Clubs.

Their is no timeline really other than entry fee's go up after July 15th from $275.00 to $350.00. This is for for normal land speed racing vehicles....130 & 150 vehicles fee's are slightly less I believe. You can register & fill out medical forms the day you arrive if you want...it just costs more!

Here is my question, i am interested in coming out to the flats, however i am not sure if my bike can make the 130 mark, what do i need to do, keeping in mind i ride the bike as offten as i can, and dont want to go crazy, i realize the flats suck the power from a bike,and speends tend to be down, so what do i realistically need to do, we are going to try to finallize our plans soon, and would hate to make the trip and miss the mark

Dyno tune it. If you're in the 80hp range, and you should be, you've got a good shot at 130, salt and weather conditions permitting.

Crim broke the 180 mark with Roadkill at Maxton this weekend. I rode it to 176 mph on my second of 3 runs.

3rd run I set a new open record at 8 mph. It's called sandbagging and it is legal at Maxton.

This is a very fast bike, Metty's 88 inch race bike was fast but is definately a level up. Art and George Crim fixed the fuel delivery and venting problems and this bike just screams. I've been running stock looking sportsters and have been able to use my unique riding technique to finese a few extra mph out of all of them.

My techique for "Roadkill" is to HOLD ON !!

This bike just wants to GO GO GO..

Great results from the hard work of George and Art. We think are a few mph left in it and we'll try to do a little testing at the June meet at Maxton.

180 mph,.. very fast for a nekkid sportster.


Some of our reginal club members got 132+mph out of a 883 with stock heads and pistons. N4's, K+N Buell filter in a stock hamcan, forward controls and normal bars (really), XR style seat, and a 1/4 fairing. They got over 125 mph without the fairing. Excellent results from Larry and Lee of SNART (Skinny No-Ass Race Team) Racing. Great effort for sure. They are now talking rearsets and clip-ons.

We had over 50 people attending and supporting us. Big blow out party on Sat night, great weekend for all who attended.

My new 80 inch project bike is coming along and should be ready for Bonneville. We are going to have great time there,.. again.
