You're talking about taking off the turbo after you've qualified, loaning it out, and then putting it back on before you do your backup pass?

I dunno, they probably wouldn't stop you, but it sure seems awfully risky to me.

There *are* some rules about how much you're allowed to work on the bike in impound, but they aren't really enforced.

But what if the other guy qualifies? You're not going to be able to do a backup run, move the turbo to another bike, and do it's backup run. There's generally only a handful of vehicles doing backup runs and it only takes a few minutes to run them and they do it once a day.

If you're talking about impound after setting a record, well, that's generally a short term thing. They just inspect the bike and do some paperwork, you're out of there in maybe half an hour. Then of course you can do whatever you want to the bike.

I too will be doing my best to be there. I really fancied riding across, to or from, the West Coast, and at least getting in to the 130 Club on my own Buell rather than Jack's, but hell, I'd rather be there on foot than not be there at all.

It would be my pleasure to help out with anyone once again. Just ask.

Thanks Aaron. One more stupid question for today - would it be a bad idea to ride to the flats on the bike I plan on running for LSR's?

What's your idea with the two bikes?

Peter - Just thinking. Maybe find someone else with a lower compression bike and the old frame style and share the turbo. Maybe lower my S1's compression - but I would rather keep it togeather right now - and run it too. Having the back up runs in short order like that doesn't seem to allow for the idea though.

To ride out to the event sounds like a bad idea, to ride out with Rocket?

Good or bad idea, it's unlikely Rocket is gonna be riding his own Buell in the States this year. As Pete's already committed to other plans now, there seems little point in doing it on my own so I've forged ahead and am trying to sort other things too. Bonneville, much the same deal as last year, is probably my American target, hopefully with Pete too. Pete ?

With Paul committed and working seriously on a 1350 P-PP record attempt, and a new project landing in my lap, I'm probably not going to enter the M2 in 1350 P-PP as originally planned.

Most of the stuff to get it there is already bought, though. It'd make a nice 150 club bike. You two clowns coming?

Aaron : I'd absolutely love to do the 150 Club but I didn't want to make a fuss of it because of the more 'serious' intentions for Team Elves.

Seeing as you're dangling bait, this clowns already got his pants sorted but can I ride in leather pants and jacket rather than Chop's leathers ???

As for the M2, what would you have us do, and I'll twist Pete's arm too

I'm trying hard to make it. I'll know more for sure once this S1W is back together. I'll take you up on that offer though. Do you have the time to put it together and run it in, or should we allow more time to do it when we are there?

Peter: I should be able to get it ready in time. I think. Maybe. Problem is, this top end I put together for it ain't streetable, so when I do the mods, I lose one of my favorite street bikes. So I probably won't do it until late in the summer. If you can come over earlier, that's better, there will be plenty to do.

But then again, the damn rear base gasket started leaking recently. Matches the burnt oil that's been dripping out the exhaust port. So I probably ought to pull it down now. Grrrr.

BTW, Paul Rogers will be here as well. And I'm assuming the Sportster list team, too. I think Paul gets here on the prior Friday or Saturday. You guys can talk Australian.

Rocket: I thought they required race leathers in the club stuff? No?

Yeah that's what I thought too Aaron. I'll read the rule book later. Perhaps Ican get one of those zip together jackets to go with the pants.

I tell ya, if we make it again, these pants NEED to do 150 MPH. LOL

By the way, do they sell Australian Dictionaries over there. I looked all over town today and couldn't find one !

Hey Elvers....in case you haven't seen it yet Aaron, some more ink for The Sportser guys. Seems your mug is getting around in the magazines with the Team Elves & the Sportster List Race team.

I also wanted to point out to the folks planning on entering a bike thru Team Elves. Don't pay too much attention to the present records as quite a few get bumped in August at the SCTA/BNI Speedweek event. Lo & behold last year I thought I had a contender, (& I did) until the Guzzi riders bumped up 1000 cc P/PP from 134.525 to 137.920 in August of last year. That single event caused two more re-builds & a few more hundred dollars for us to bust that mark. After spending the previous winter & Spring getting the engine built, you find yourself at a crossroads after the First Bonneville event in August...sometimes...if a record you are eyeballing gets bumped up more.

Aaron, please tell Susan, me & Tami wish a warm Hello!

Dale A.

Aaron,

We have gutted the S2, I've got some photos of one torn down to bits if anyone wants to see innards. We will not be "streetable" and that causes a certain amount of distress. In three years when it is done racing I will be looking for a 98 S3 motor to put in my frame. This year we think we may have ~ 130 hp. My S2 is probably coming out in two configuartions. The one for P-PP is limiting, but the two carb setup should get us some decent speed. The frame magnafluxed great with the only cracks on the sub-frame holding the headlight etc. Those of you with S2's may want to look closely at that particular assembly. We are looking at full fairing options at the moment and organizing the group coming out.
We have funding and will probably not need TeamElves money. I will always consider myself a member as long as you guys will have me.

Paul

Paul: I can't tell you how thrilled I am that you're doing this. You are putting 1350 P-PP first, right?

Dale: you talking about this picture?

American Iron Article

This is great ... my little pocket Fuji took this picture, while sitting on a chair & using the timer, and here the picture has shown up in 2 magazines!

(Y'all wouldn't believe how great this picture looks when printed as an 8x10 ... sharp and amazing bright colors. Dale knows, I sent him a copy)

Dale, that week will forever be etched in my memory. Just the 3 of us, focused on the task at hand, and riding the wave of your success. You the man!

Aaron,

Yes, 1350 P-PP is our priority target. The Guzzi just went 165 at Maxton, Old airport with traction. I am pretty sure they were in P-PP configuration so we expect to have to go mid 160's on the salt, which will be a real issue due to carb and muffler etc. We are planning on running the first couple of days in P-PP. If we get real lucky and get to about 165 and it is a record we will re-configure and try for something else. We are thinking about the Silver streak?? carb that came on the CA models as one solution to the carb issue. SCTA says we can run it if we can find one and the 40 mm CV doesn't get us where we need to be. The lowers off the T model also appear to be legal, if we could obtain them they should a couple of mph.

Paul

I think that's a good idea, each of us (Paul, FMJ, Rocky, and myself) should do a little write up with a picture or two, telling as much about our plans as we can without giving away any secrets, and get that up on the team web site. I'll work something up for my effort.

Over the past few days, there have been some tremendously positive developments in my goals for Bonneville '02. The pieces are falling into place. The know-how, the parts, the support.

Man am I getting pumped.

A whole lot of work to do, but it's sure looking like the essential ingredients for success are available. Now I just have to execute.

There will be an announcement before too long, I want to clear a couple more (smaller) hurdles first.

I'd bet that the lowers will actually push a LOT more air than tightly leather clad legs squeezing the bike with your feet set back on the rear pegs.
