Greetings from NC!

First off love all the info on the forum I have learned a lot reading through the archives. Also really happy to see some recent forum activity!

After getting the rear rocker box gasket replaced I have been having issues with my bike. It starts up, then the engine light turns on and it peeters out. It sounds like it is losing fuel pressure.

I was able to take the bike into a local performance harley place that was willing to work on it. They said that the engine code is telling them that I have a bad ECM.

I think this would explain the problem.
I am unsure of where to source the ECM from.

I have a 2008(manufactured in 2007) with a drummer exhaust, that was installed on the bike when I bought it.

Looking at the EBR page they have a xb12 ECM for a drummer exhaust. Im pretty sure this is what I need. Would I select the 2007 or 2008?
Anybody know if this is what I am looking for? Any info to point me in the correct direction would be awesome.

Thanks!

Sounds like you found what you need, 2008 model. Not quite plug and play: get it as far away from the seat pan as possible and the TPS will need to be set.

You need a 2008/2009 ECM. 2007 physically won't fit, it is a different generation. You can get it from EBR or IDS

Thanks so much for the response!

It is really helpful to hear a confirmation that I am looking at the correct part.

Also looks like I will save a couple bucks buying the ecm directly from IDS.

I'm a bit suspicious of the opinion that the ECM is 'bad'.
Sounds more like a fueling issue to me.
What code(s) did the tech find?

Pushr0d,
The Useless seat pan is too close to the ECM and too wimpy so the ECM gets squished and the traces on the board get cracked.
Picture 955i Sprint rectifier location, that kind of engineering.

I don't trust the 'diagnosis' of this expensive part either.

If the ECM is cracked ya sure, go look at it, and get one if it's cracked. Otherwise, I'd do a bit of checking before just buying the magic-make-engine-go-putt-putt-box and hoping that total guess does the trick. IMO

OP, Who replaced the gaskets? I'd start there.

Take off the airbox base plate and check for pinched wires, unplugged sensors, etc. It's easy and free to check that stuff.

Next. Is the fuel pump running? If you can't hear it, Put a test light on the plug at the pump and turn the key/run switch on..

I bought new ECM for cheap on Ebay. It was blank but I was able to find necessary EEPROM file for this ECM firmware (Buelltooth shared with me) and flashed it with Bluetooth dongle.

The price those official Buell parts distributors ask for ECM is crazy.

"I'm a bit suspicious of the opinion that the ECM is 'bad'.

What code(s) did the tech find?"

The engine codes that they pulled off were 54 and 55. According to the 2008_xb_electrical_diagnostics_manual I found online 54 is a ECM EEPROM Failure
and 55 is ECM Microprocessor Failure. The listed solution to both of those problems is replacing the ECM. I also don't hate the idea of getting the new ECM from IDS programmed to match my exhaust.

"OP, Who replaced the gaskets? I'd start there."

So that is kinda a mess. Took it to a place called Kevin Powell Motorsports they had it for months... When I finally got it back I was missing my neutral light, had these issues, and had water in my oil. The area where they were storing it had standing water on half the floor surface. I regret taking it there, and regret not making a bigger fuss when picking it up. They said they didn't have the proprietary software to check the fault codes and told me to take it into the local Harley dealership...which won't work on Buells. I cut my losses and moved on, deciding not to let them work on my bikes in future.

My bike is currently at the new shop. They work primarily on Harley's but were willing to help me out. The place has a great reputation and I am hopeful.

Thank you all for the advice.

Update: Got the bike back had them replace front tire and bearing, full service, and that ECM and it is running smoother than ever before. Thanks for all the info.
