I put Michelin road pilot 4 trails on my vstrom and I really like them. Very sticky in the turns and really grip in the rain. I don't go off road much but down a lot of gravel roads and they are good there too. I I bought them after a 12 Mph tipover turning in a parking lot on a set of death wings. |

The Scorpion Trail is excellent if you're going to do some offroad work. Otherwise, the Michelin Pilot Road 5's are out and they say they are better than the 4's that I have, and I'm really impressed with the 4's! |

About 200 miles ago I put a set of Shinko's on my 09 XT. Not all that sticky in a turn but I use the bike as a daily commuter on the Interstate. The only time I go off road is when I don't set up for a turn properly. |

I love the PR4s but they're just not for a Uly, at least not if you want to get it muddy now and then. They're all I'll put (in whatever generation is current) on my street bikes (S1W, CR, M2, and the late great S2), but just don't like them on the Uly because they keep me off fire roads and dirt. Next set of shoes for mine will be Avon Trailriders. Dual compound like the PR's for good highway life, but nice thick carcass with good grooves for off-pavement jaunts. |

I've been running PR2s on my XT since I think the first tire change and they've been great. Until now they have been available as old inventory. I end up running the Pirellis on my feejer. Go figure. |

I ran scorpion trails for a couple years and was very happy with their grip as well as longevity (9k or so on a rear). Last year I picked up a nail a week after I put on my last scorpion (F#CK) and had a trip to leave on in a few days...local guys didn't have anything I was interested in for a decent price so I jumped on amazon and found dunlop roadsmart 2s for a very good price (around $175 a set) and they got to me in 2 days. Chapparrel is selling them, believe they are old stock but the date codes are still within the last 2 years which is my personal cut-off. Getting ready to install my 3rd rear and 2nd front and they have been great. Obviously, they dont have the off-road grip but I am getting 12-13k on a rear and 20K on the front (not really worn down, just a weird cupping) and they have handled great. Being in Kansas I dont really push them in the corners, but they have done great during my trips in the last year to places with corners and I have seemed to encounter a lot of rain, they have felt great. Just a budget option if you are looking for more on-road manners. |
