For better or worse I just bought another Uly. I had an 08 XT (Black) That I sold several years ago. I Just bought an 08 XT (Black) from a guy in FL for $2900 + $650 shipping to Seattle. 40K miles, looks to be decent but needs a few things. Runs good, mostly stock.
The rear wheel is a different color than the front (which is black) so I'm hoping it's a 3 bearing wheel, but haven't had time do much looking. What should I look for to see if it's a 3 bearing wheel?

Over the winter I'm going to give the bike a good going through but this thing needs tires NOW. How to tell if the rear is 3 bearing?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

The only way to tell is to pull the wheel and count the bearings.

If you can actually see the bearings on both sides it's a two bearing wheel. On the three bearing wheel there will be a dust cover over the bearings.

Black axle might mean itís a 3 bearing

The three bearing axle will work in place of the two bearing axle. The only true way to tell is to pull the wheel.

Well I can see both bearings and the axle is silver so all signs point to a 2 bearing wheel. I don't think they made a bright gold wheel in 2010 anyhow. I was going to powder coat this wheel black but maybe I'll just spring for a black 2010 wheel. Since I really don't know the history of this bike I might as well throw a new belt on the back while the wheel is off. It's only money, right??

They only made the three bearing wheels in amber, cherry red, villain black, and magnesium tone if I'm remembering correctly.
