Bank Angle Sensor? Not sure if that had been floated as a possibility earlier in the thread...

An hour and half later my son shows up with his truck and after one more attempt to start it, on the truck it goes.

ah man, that's a bummer. Hope you get it sorted. Like the thread title implies, it's such a great bike when it works : ).

In the past 5 years, between my family and myself, we've gone through 6 Harley battery's. They are garbage! We even had a brand new 2013 Dyna with a bad battery. It checked out 3 times. The replaced everything and the we demand that battery to be changed at our expense. It was fixed and they did give us back our money.
Just to let you know those batteries have a mind of their own!

+1 on the H-D batteries being crappy now.
I have given up on them and now get AGM batteries from other places.

H-D branded batteries were quite good for a time but they must have changed their supplier or something.

I'm using a tiny Deltran lithium ion battery from Walmart. The same people who make the Battery Tender. This little thing weights about 2 lbs with 280cca. The only draw back is on cold days you have to flip all the lights on for 30 seconds before cranking over the bike. The battery has to generate a little heat before it reaches full power but always started my bike for $109

William, Is the Deltran small enough that you could put 2 of them in there?

Claude,

I like your pic of NSB. I live in The Wave condo ~2 miles south of where that picture was taken. I am building a house one block north of Chases. I ride a black 2006 Uly so if you spy one while in NSB flag me over.

Ourdee, yes. I think you could fit two in there. You might need to do a little modifying but they have a 480cca that is a tiny bit smaller than the OEM battery. I'm not sure what your plans are but they work extremely well IMHO

Hey Frank. Good to know! We're up there quite a bit. My family's favorite beach.

We'll have to throw down some miles some time...

Battery connections are also a problem. I have star washers on mine an they can still come loose. This causes no start cold or hot usually not both, and all kinds of temporary electrical anomalies.

Too true. If you hit the start button and the starter labors, you hit the start button again and it fires up but the display shows the clock it's loose battery cables.
Guess what I had to tighten tonight after work?

My OE battery on my Ulysses lasted 8 years.

I like the front mudguard on the bike in the photo.

So... I ordered the wrong part by accident from St Paul's HD. Got a crank sensor for an 09-10 Ulysses. Cost was $89... Got a refund but the 06 sensor is $156. Is there a sure fire way of testing this thing before I drop 156 bucks?

Get a heat gun. Take bike to temp and then radiate hotter air onto it. See what it does. Not too sure how to chill it going the other way.
Maybe move further north?

I have no idea what you guys are talking about... was just curious if there's a good way to test the crank sensor.

Chill the sensor and see if it starts working right.

I think this is what they're suggesting. IF the bike will crank up, this will work. If it won't, you may as well install the new sensor and try it.

Drill the rivets out on the timing cover and remove it. Crank the bike up, and let it idle. Take your hair dryer and blow it on the crank sensor to heat it up. If the bike dies when it gets hot, there's your problem. You can verify by blowing the cold freeze stuff on it to quickly cool it off and see if the bike will run again, but that's probably not necessary.

So actually you are at the point that the bike doesn't run at all now? I thought that it would at least start in some form. I misunderstood on that small point. Anyway,
When you open up the cover, look the cps over and see if any part of it has a melted look to it. Backside also. Heat is their worst enemy.
Thanks to all with their chill suggestions. Hadn't thought of all the possibilities. StI'll want to move north , tho!

Sagehawk, 101 degrees yesterday in St. Louis and my air conditioned car is in the body shop due to hail damage. I'm driving my toy with no AC! Chicago is nice this time of year as long as you don't get shot!

Ah. Ok, I get it now. Yea, the bike doesn't start at all. All lights work, dash works and it cranks over just fine but won't even pop.

And I was thinking a lot further north than either st Louis or chicago!
