So my brother and I took 2 weeks to ride around Colorado. The intent was to do some Jeep trails and we started with some easy ones like the Shelf road from Cripple Creek to Canyon City. It was originally a stage coach road before the railroad came through.

We rode to Salina and spent the night. We were going to ride Old Monarch Pass but the motel owner suggested we take Marshall Pass so we did. Great suggestion!

We ended up in Ouray to ride the Jeep trail to Lake City but there was a Jeep rally and the motels were full and Jeeps everywhere. Well it sucks to follow a slow ass Jeep on a Jeep trail so we gave up and rode only pavement from there on. Too bad, we were both looking forward to getting a little more challenge! Maybe next year!

Awesome trip! I rode through Colorado a long time ago on my FXR, and always wanted to return to ride off road. Great time of year to be out there too!

Used to live in Colorado. I know exactly where those pictures are. I miss this places when the leaves change. Thanks for sharing.

We ended up putting 3000 miles on the bikes in the two weeks. We came in at Colorado Springs and rode West to Montrose then South to Durango. We then went West to Cortez and then North back up through Montrose all the way to Glenwood Springs. It was so busy there we rode East to Eagle to find a room. From there we rode to Idaho Springs and tried to go up Mt. Evans but it was closed so we headed North again up to Lyon and then to Estes Park where we pointed East again to Loveland where a good friend just bought his retirement home. We rode by and checked it out. My brother decided he'd had enough and rode straight through from Loveland to Collinsville Illinois. 14 1/2 hours! I stayed and enjoyed a couple of days of checking out back roads and breweries! I also got to ride by NRHS in Berthoud and visit with Dan and Zack. They are doing some nice work in there! When I heard rain might be coming in I started heading East but it took me 3 days to get home! I did visit some friends along the way which made for a much more pleasurable ride than a banzai run.

great ride post. certainly better for you than the Needles,SD. did you need GPS or special maps to find select off-road routes? i did the straight through once from Denver area to NE IA. in one day--25+ years ago-- not today.

Ha! Much better than Needles Hwy! This trip was to make up for screwing up my brother's vacation last time when he had to drive me home! I've had a couple of 15 hour days in the saddle but it was on a Harley dresser, not a Uly!

We just had a map of Colorado and my phone. If I had known about the Jeep rally in Ouray I would have searched for different Jeep trails. I wanted to try Black Bear Pass into Telluride but my brother didn't want to risk scratching his bike up.
