Ok guys this one may be a bit off, but i think its actually worth pursuing. So we all know we have limited tire options for our bike when it comes to offroad tires. Basically TKC80s or stretching some 170/60s on the rear. But what about a cheaper front tire option? Right now the only 2 tires I see as options are the TKCs and the shinko 704/705 if your put the 170 on which wouldnt be all that hard. My question is this; Has anyone ever tried to put a 4.6 - 17 tire on the front? basically a stock DR rear tire. Takes a tube but that wouldnt be bad. 4.6 inches = 116.84mm. the only problem would be its about 30% taller. Is anyone willing to give this a try or am I going to have to be the tester? if it works, we could be getting front knobbies for about $50. Offer up suggestions or comments on how I'm an idiot!

We're all idiots. We continue to ride cult following bikes that we will soon be holding together with duct tape and chewing gum. :^)

But short of ending up as a red stain on the ground, I'm interested in the results of any experiments that increase the options for replacement parts.

Just saw the TKC 70 in 120/70 17 for the first time on the Conti site. Too bad I just got another TKC 80 last week.
I got 7500 miles on my last TKC 80 up front, combined with their performance I don't see much of a need for anything else for anyone who ever plans to leave the pavement.
With frequent buyer on RockyMountainAtv, my last three cost $99, 49 and 79.
I personally would never put a rear up front, leave them in their designed spot. Different designs for different jobs. I love my boots, warm, dry and comfortable - but I'll never swap them for even a crappy pair of gloves.

I have no problem with the TKC80s, except the price and the short life in the rear. I do extensive off-road with my buell and im looking for more aggressive tires. However I dont want to be shelling out $160 every month for a new rear tire. Unless people are getting good results with them. From what I see on the 12gsa, its about a 3k mile tire.

I thought your question was pertaining to putting a rear up front, and with the 80 available for that it didn't seem necessary.
As for the rear, I agree the 80 doesn't make much sense unless all you ride is dirt. Fortunately there are a lot more options for the rear. The Karoo 3 and TKC 70 are quite capable and are 6k+ tires and the K60 is said to do 8k+.

Do you just go with the 170/60 for the rear?
