Hi, I was wondering how often are TPS resets necessary?

Anytime you replace the engine computer.

Anytime you replace the TPS.

Whenever the bike starts running funky.

"Suggested" interval is every oil change, but many here feel "if it ain't broke, don't mess with it".

I haven't had to do mine in over 30,000 miles.

When you do do it, make sure the engine is up to running temperature. Resetting it cold will get you a poor running engine.

If all else is in tune and it runs well and proper there is no need to mess with it. I do clean the throttle plate for carbon build up now and again.

When the bike is new, the sensor will slowly "settle in" as miles get added to the bike, so I do recommend checking it at the first few oil changes. After checking again 10k miles, it never seems to need checking again.

If you swap ECMs, throttle body, or the TPS itself you will need to check/reset it again.

Pffft. Do it with a $15 wireless dongle, and an android phone or tablet you already own (or could buy new or used for $50 or less). Or a laptop with a serial port and a different dongle.

Or ECMSpy cable ($35 on ebay, or do one yourself for $5).
