Not much happening of interest on this site anymore. I suppose it will peter out completely as time goes by. Maybe it is just because of the winter weather and less people able to ride their Buells. Without new models coming out like in the past I can see where this forum just rehashes the same ole same ole over and over.

Yep, as time goes on Buell and EBR are becoming more rare and more exotic. Bikes are slowly being be destroyed for one reason or another, so as the number of bikes dwindle, the number of owners dwindle, and that means the number of members on here (new and old) will also slowly dwindle. Less members = less posts, and so on. There was a huge boom in numbers for everything after the firesale in late 09, but after that things started settling down, then slowly shrinking. The other smaller Buell forums are doing worse, on Buellitenboard, if you ignore Twin Motorcycle's weekly "what we did" posts in the Uly section, the last new thread was in the summer of 2014.

Winter isn't helping, but we are going to become more of a close knit family in the future as time goes on.

Who knows what things will be like in 10 years from now, either we will be the next Norton owners group, or possibly EBR gets resurrected and ends up being a major brand.

At least you still got me : D

Hey,

I'm still here and still riding my XT. I'm getting pressure to sell it and get a touring bike. I'd love one but just can't seem to part with the my baby.

I'm on the board every day, I don't have the tech knowledge you guys have so seldom post anything, but I read every day.

I'm on here every day, just not much to post about right now, between the weather and mu bike being in pieces. I have some big news but I'm sitting on it for another week.

Winter sucks like it usually does in the motorcycle world.

My post here today would probably read like; I went to the bathroom with a plan.....it all worked out!

I really am going to change the front tire on my Uly someday soon. I have nearly done it a few times.

I'm still around. Occasionally stop in once a week to see what I'm missing. As EG1997 says, it's sort of the same stuff each time, so I don't chime in very often.

Things to do this winter; Get my EBR computer chip reprogrammed to the way I want my fan to work. New tires front and back. And new HID lamps. I have the less expensive ones from DDM and those ballasts seemed to have failed after 3 yrs. I was thinking of LEDs, but no one seems to recommend any for our Ulys. Maybe the more expensive HIDs will last longer.

Dead of Winter and I think we're all waiting to see what becomes of EBR.
The Buells are still around but right now I'm more focused on getting a bunch of Triumph triples set up to my liking.
Once they're done the Useless will finally get it's 100K refurb.

I changed the plugs an put on Magnecor wires today (red one in first pic), along with stripping a few of the useless toys out from under the air box.

I'm still here, don't post a lot but check in often. Don't see this forum going away anytime soon. Lots of knowledge, compassion and friendships here. I started looking at Buells in the late 90's, test rode a Cyclone at Daytona Bike Week and bought one in 2000. Put 43,000 miles on it with the technical help from this board. Traded it in on an 09 Uly. Which I plan to keep.

I'm not going anywhere. Read every day. I try to direct people to threads, and post if I can help. My bike is such a money pit, that it I may as well keep it. Besides, I like it! I've taken care of most of the bugs. I would like to have the primary cover clutch ramp fixed, just so it can't leave me stranded, and have to install my '08 trees.
It's a great site. I don't ride as much as I'd like to, it's family first for me but I hope this site stays around.

Still here waiting on another broken throttle body shaft. Sales have slowed considerably but I have plenty left. Starting to look like a bad investment but I'd do it again. I just hate seeing folks ripped off for no reason! Besides, I love giving Vern a hard time!

Hell, I can't afford to replace or buy a companion for the Uly so I guess I'll be here for a while. Besides, we already have a date set for this year's ADK rally and I have new fork seals that need to be installed before then. But then again, it's going to be over 40 degrees this weekend, I can't park it yet.

I used to be on this forum every day and would post anything I had that I thought others could use. That all changed when I got a different job, no time anymore. I drive a semi now for a steel company and work 55 to 60 hours just Monday thru Friday so I don't have time to ride during the week. I spend my weekends getting caught up on jobs at home that I don't get done during the week. Last year, I only put 3,000 miles on my 08 XB12XT. Still love the bike, just no time.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for sympathy. Many of you work more hours than I do. Things just change, whether we like it or not. As long as I have my Buell, I would hate for this site to fizzle out. It has been a great source of info from a bunch of really great guys (and gals). I have always felt like we are one big family and we learn a lot from each other. Hope that it continues. Thanks.

Still here, check forum almost everyday, ride almost everyday but rarely the xp after getting the 1190R. Sad to look at the Uly sitting in the corner of the garage fading away after 34 k of good times. Maybe like this forum.

Winter here so I don't check the forum more than once or twice a week tops.

That being said, I've been giving some serious thought to selling my XT. Didn't ride much last summer, and when I did I had issues with my VR that took a few weeks to get resolved. This forum helped immensely, and so did Al at American Sportbike.

My fear is that with American Sportbike leaving the scene, owning this bike will become more difficult. I'm in Canada, and my local H-D dealer would have taken 2 weeks to get me a new VR from Milwaukee. American Sportbike was able to get it to me in about 6 days. Without them, I worry that I'll be at the mercy of our local uninterested HD dealer.

i check in about every day. this forum is the only reason i can continue to enjoy my favorite bike. reminds me of the old '48 HD FL, if you can't fix it, you can,t ride it. i think the forum will become more important to each of us as time passes. we will all need to share our"work around" solutions as parts and professional buell mechanics become more limited.Face it, buell people are actually different than most. i will not be selling my uly, i could hardly wait to get my hands on it when first announced. we-meaning the bike and i- have bonded in a weird love/hate type of way.

Greg, it is a good thing I can take it! Otherwise I'd have to kick your ass!

I feel less and less guilty about stealing your firewood to make a bigger and better fire pit fire than you ever could have. I don't know if you had figured out my plan. It was more a defensive move in that we did not need more wood, but you needed less.

I check in from time to time. I just picked up a 09 Blast w/1700 miles to play around with. Scored it for a $500 trade.

My main ride is the 15' DL000A (Vee2) or the 06 Wing, but the Buell passion will always be in my blood.

This site ain't fizzing out! This has to be one of the worst winters to keep our northern bros inside. I don't have that cold of weather, it's the damn commuting and job that nothing left during week, and weekends are catchup on chores. Living in a 50 something year old home don't help either. And yes, when that grand boy shows, I MAKE time for that little guy. He's 5 and it won't be long before I start him on a life of crime and decadence. I'm gonna piss his mom off every chance I get. That's what grandpa's do , right? Anyway, my 2 cents worth.
Road racing Feb 19-21 at msr just north of me in angleton. Jim2 shared that with me. Buellerxt, buewulf, zane, and all other houston buellers, show up! a great way to start a new year and get some stuff going on in our area!
Zane, you live less than 50 miles away. Are ya hearing me?

OK, I had to come out of my hole for this one.
This site has always been a great resource for a latecomer like me. I started out with the newby posts like so many others and then realized how much information is available on the site. So, a few minutes of research and you have an answer. I hate to post a question when it's probably been asked 50 times before. As a former VW tech, I have a strong mechanical background but see little need to respond to any post with “did you try” when I have not experienced that problem myself. On the other hand, I suppose a post is a post and it gives us something to keep us engaged in something that we enjoy.

Yes, as time goes on, both bikes and owners are falling into disrepair so numbers are dwindling but I think this site will last. If Harley ever shuts off the parts and I see no evidence of that yet, I expect this site will become even more valuable to those that love their Buells. I foresee much more info will be required on how to keep our orphans running and what parts can be substituted from some other motorcycle or resource. The classified section for parts will be busy if someone posts their part-out list. All it will take is to keep the site running is the faithful souls as we have today. As I research topics today, I often view the profile of those involved. Many that were active members have not logged in for years so it is safe to assume they are riding something else or no longer with us in some other way.

Speaking of parts, I just ordered the Outdoorsman top case, the Buell graphics and reflectors to go on my side cases and a new belt for my XP. I read somewhere on this site that the top case was no longer available but that info was incorrect. It will ship directly from the vendor (Germany I suppose) so it will take a few week to get it. I’ve wanted that case for years.

While most of the country is in deep freeze, this is the best time of year for me to ride the Uly here in the deep south. Too damn hot and humid to ride the atomic paint shaker from about April to September when you have all your gear on. Went out for about 60 miles a few weeks ago and when I got home, it was 38 degrees. I need much better gloves and thicker socks but still enjoyed the ride. The bike seems to run so much better this time of year. During the summer, I spend more time on my DR650 but still do not ride much during the hottest weather unless I douse myself with the garden hose before I head out.

I think my biggest concern of owning a Buell as my primary bike for road use is the lack of a dealer network. My bike only has about 7,000 miles and has been perfectly reliable but I hesitate to get out on the road on an adventure with dealers hundreds of miles apart. Even if you happen to be near a dealer, it is unlikely they will stock anything except the most common failure item. When I was about 20, I was planning to drive a 1963 Mercedes across country when the transmission locked in 2nd gear. What a bitch to get that car back to my parent’s house from about 400 miles away. I had to rent a Ryder truck and drive the car into the back using a loading ramp at the local caterpillar dealer. To unload, I used some lumber as ramps and stuffed the car into a huge pile of bark chips in a church parking lot near my parent’s house. It worked out fine but as you can see, the experience has not faded from memory.
Sorry for the ramble but after all, a post is a post. Right? If you are in the Birmingham area and want to ride, get in touch. I recently saw a Uly in my neighborhood so I know someone is still out there…

No winter riding blues for me (sorry guys) but if it makes you feel better my insurance rates higher here since I can ride 365.

Been lurking about but too busy to post much. Working at resort, doing private caterings, working at local elementary/middle school, refereeing soccer and managing our vacation rental leave me not a lot of time.

Well if you think you can kick my ass you just bring it on! But, like my uncle used to say, "Let's have a couple of beers first so it doesn't hurt so bad!"

Wish I could make Glitchfest but it's just not in the cards. I'm hoping I'm healthy enough to retire in May, then I can drop by and personally guilt you into replacing that front tire!

Good post Hoover and now how you feel about confidence and breakdowns.

I broke down twice with the Uly. First time, 210 miles from home, was bad wheel bearings even though I had preemptively put supposed better bearings in. I have a 2010 wheel now. Second time was the regulator but since I have a voltmeter LED, I knew right away, pulled my headlight fuse and JUST made it home from about 70 miles away. It started missing about two miles from home.

Arry: would you describe tote goat for me? At canton on first Monday sale days, and wife was looking for a pygmy goat. I said no, and this is what we wound up with. A 5 wk old male pyr. Anyway, I'm rolling the buell riding minutes in the bank I guess.
Anyway, time to start looking for some project to do with that grandboy. Gotta quit acquiring animams first tho.
another pyr?
