19k miles on it, since ive had it 6 months now, occasionally when i start it up its only hitting on one cylinder but will eventually clear out. ive run a can of seafoam and it still happens. im thinking o2 sensor bad, or do they just go out completely? it runs great 99% of the time, but ive had to ride off one one cylinder more than i'd like. any ideas?

Change the spark plugs.

John,
Did you buy it from a dealer? Bikes on the showroom floor were often started up for potential customers to hear. Throttles blipped a few times then shut down before they warmed up. A few XBs were sold with fuel fouled plugs. If it has the original plugs in it, I'd change them out. You could also have a worn plug wire or coil going out, even a bad ground somewhere. But my first guess is a bad plug.

Use a drop of copper anti-sieze on the new plug's threads. I use a 12" long piece of 1/4" fuel hose to get the rear plug started in the hole.

I'm with RD here. My new 2008 was delivered to me with fouled plugs. I had to pick it up the following day after a plug replacement.

Replace the plugs. If that doesn't work, consider replacing the wires and/or coil.

O2 sensor should not affect startup.

Anaconda: which cylinder is falling out? Same one each time? Or different one off and on? Would help narrowing it down on troubleshooting.
I messaged you thru badweb a while back being a galvestonite. No reply. If you need a bit of help, holler at me. I'm always up to a challenge and still thinking of all of us getting together here with greater Houston area. Take care!

when i changed plugs the old ones looked fine so my thoughts werent focused on them, but other areas. it runs too good to be mechanical as in lifter or valve but really need to do a compression test. email me direct at anacondabjj@hotmail.com for the future.

It is easy to loosen up the coil end of the plug wires when changing them, could have happened before you got it. This has been an issue common to your problem.

Remove air box and base to access. Make sure the wires are pushed on all of the way onto the coils.

ok, so today i rode to baytown, about 120 mile round trip. bike ran great. parked it for a few hours, and it starts up on front cylinder and hits , then smoothes out. so it goes to sleep and wakes up with an issue. when i changed plugs i checked wire fitment. i think its a fuel delivery issue.weird.

You could go cheap on wires but if you want to really kick this problems butt buy the magnecors, remove the plastic base plate under the air filter, remove the coil (easy), insert the coil wires with some dielectric grease, push them in tight and wrap electrical tape around sealing the connections. Put it all back together and go find a monsoon (bad weather) to ride in and laugh at how smooth your engine runs on TWO cylinders. Also carefully route your wires to prevent chaffing.

As far as routing the wires, a few of us have raised the coil 3/4" using spacers and longer screws. This allows the front wire to go between the throttle cables and takes a little of the bend away so it doesn't rub the frame.

Problem solved..........magnecor wires, iridium plugs, and new coil. runs great now!!! looks like the cheap plugs were part of the problem, and im sure the wires needed replacing also. Thanks everyone!
