How often should the injectors be cleaned and what is a good product to use?

I've never cleaned a set.

I run seafoam through the bike once a year - typically I'll treat one tank in the winter during my 'off' season. Carb or EFI, my bikes have never had a fuel-gunk issue or performance problems.

I also use Seafoam. Being cheap I make my own. It seems to work as well as the store bought stuff.

Run (Chevron) fuel with Techron or use Techron additive.

I run premium fuels only and premium without alcohol when I can. It keeps the entire fuel system running right. Sea foam added if it sits for a while.

I contacted Dris a year or so ago about injector cleaning. Their shop recommends this every big service. They disassemble injector, ultrasonic clean, reassemble , and put in a machine to flowtest. I asked how much average increase in flow they get. 4-6% he stated. I've never had mine cleaned in that fashion but with enough miles or time on bike it makes sense. There's a place in Stafford texas that does this and earlier this year their price was $18 dollars a injector with a general 2 day turnaround. My uly is running good right now but a service to think about. I also have a 2000 mazda with 244,000 on it that I thought would be a guinea pig.

I have a few sets for automotive applications from this place. Jon Banner and his son are good people.
They did a bunch of videos showing their work. If needed I'll reach out to them for the Buell and the Victory.

For maintenance I run a bottle of techron at an oil change. The concentration is good to 12 gallons.
I have never used seafood in an injected bike, only carborated. If there is funk in the tank you're gonna needed to do the fuel filter after dosing it with seafoam.

Hey, no problem.
IMO, for what it's worth, services like injector cleaning, engine flushing, etc are but ways to separate people from their money. And provide minimum benefit (if any) for the dollars spent.

At our shop, we do see benefits to injector cleaning, if the bike has been sitting for some time (years). Nothing really on bikes that have been regularly ridden. Our injector guy tells us that injectors wear with use, sometimes done't seal well, and the spray pattern deteriorates as the orifices lose their shape and edges.

The only injector issue I have ever had in any vehicle was recently, my Dodge pickup's 5.7 had a drooler.
When the engine was off, it would drip a little into the manifold, flooding the engine.
I didn't bother trying to clean it. I just replaced it and it's running fine so far.
Neither Buell I have has done anything odd with the injectors. The X1 has almost 90K and the Uly has almost 60K.

Have a had several Buells with clogged/leaking injectors. Most from sitting and old age. And have had several fail on my Busa racebikes, just stop working.Use RC Injectors on Higgins Ct--LOL!

Firemanjim: how many egged or out of round intakes have you ran across in your years wrenching? I was curious as so many folks have had intake seal leak issues. I have a 96 road king w/42 mikuni and fought a rear cylinder leak constantly. Finally bought a s&s manifold that solved issue. Rear spigot was egged app. .022" or so. How bout injector orings , things like that?

Never seen one egged, but sure have had alot of bad seals! Someone may have dropped that manifold at one time.

That's quite an egging Paul. At NRHS we've had success straightening out egged manifold ports with a small rubber hammer.

I just got tired of jacking with it. The s&s manifold had a larger plenum area than stock and solved some idle and midrange issues I was having at the time. All better then.
I bought the bike new and was the only owner of it. Front seemed to seal well but rear would only seal so long. Took a while to figure that one out as finally put a machinist hat on and started measuring stuff. Since then, I look for the real problem and not replace parts, no matter how inexpensive. Older and wiser now I guess.
