After performing a tps reset I have noticed that my bike (07 uly) is idling erratically. It starts and runs fine but when after a couple of minutes of idle it will rev up to approx 1250 rpm for about 8 secs and then drop back down to about 750 rpm for 2 seconds. It will perform this dance continously. I have checked for leaking intake seals, but as far as I can make out, everything seems good. Any ideas... | ||

Drop your idle speed about 50 RPMs. They will "hang" at a high idle and go up and down if you are just a bit too high. This is on '06 and '07 bikes only. The idle speed should be 1050, but mine will hang and hunt when set there. I have it as close to 1000 as can be read. | ||

And it that doesn't do it then loosen the screws on the tps sensor and rotate the sensor to the right. (clockwise) This will put spring pressure on it and keep it from flopping around from vibration. You will have to do another tps reset after you move it. I would move the sensor, reset the tps and then ride it till it's hot and then reset the tps again while hot. | ||

Another thing that is simple to do: if you can, take your bike for a steady ride on a motorway. Keep the revs as close to 3000 as possible and as constant as possible for 10 minutes. See if anything changes. If your idle revs change after that, turn the idle adjuster until you get them right. Then fire the ECMSpy and check your TPS and AFV readings. If you did it before and it was ok then you may have a problem. If you have not done one before it can be tricky to get it exactly right. The TPS reset is NOT just about the idling of the engine but the whole running of the engine. The TPS tells the ECM how much air is going into the engine at any one point. It is pretty much the core sensor of the injection system. I would suggest you do it again before anything else. Also, and for the others that do, you should NOT re-set the AFV unless you get a ECM flag saying it has gone past its upper and lower set points. Also something I forgot to mention is that a TPS reset is not as "clear cut" as it would suggest. You can get a good idle but you may find some issues further up in the rev range. You need to be specific about doing it and MUST be done in the correct way. (Message edited by uly_man on December 02, 2015) |
