Just curious about the process. Thinking of listing my KTM 990 SMT but have never sold anything on Ebay, much less a big ticket item like that.

Any experienced people wanna lend some advice or warn me away from such an ordeal?

yes I sold a few, it's easy and for vehicles its a set fee I think $65 or $120 depending on the bikes value.. have good pics and offer to assist with shippers but the buyer pays all shipping cost.
offer world wide shipping to bring in bidders if it's a vintage anything.
you can search for completed listing in the left hand column to see what similar bikes sold for.
one sale I made to New Zealand and the buyer was able to wire money directly to my bank account. don't take any suspicious checks tho..

You may have some difficulties if you have zero transactions - how trustworthy are you is what people will think.
I sold my S1W to a fellow in Norway on eBay, it was an easy PayPal transaction and I ran it down to the Baltimore harbor for him, no charge.
eBay takes a cut and PayPal takes a cut but it beats having 10,000 bozos on Craigslist waste your time.
Recently there's been an awful lot of non-paying bidders on eBay so that can be aggravating. I would specify payment due upon close of auction.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I may go that route, after all. My short history may be a problem(that's what SHE said!), but there is nothing I can do about that. Wish me luck!

I set all my auctions to require PayPal from buyers, it helps weed out the craigslist type losers. $500 deposit. There's a button you check when building the auction, "require immediate deposit with buy it now". That means if someone clicks the BIN button you've got their $500 even if they flake. If someone wins by high bid (if you even do bids, you can always just do a buy price and leave it at that), require the $500 within 24 hours. Payment in full at pickup, specify that within 7 days. Cash or bank wire transfer only if they want to carry the title with them. Any type of check (there's no such thing as a "guaranteed" check anymore, anything can be forged) and you are holding the title for 15 business days until it clears your account. They can roll with a bill of sale stating that.

Use common sense. If they seem shady...move on. Ignore ANY "my brother is serving overseas but wants me to buy this for him" emails, do not take PayPal for full payment (that institutes pay pals buyer protection thing where they can raise Cain and PayPal will refund their money and now you're out the bike and the money). Plan for the worst and cover your ass. They're out there. I see it every day. Some are good and respectable...but I guarantee you'll get at least five scam attempts.

Oh and DO NOT SHIP. Leave that to the buyer. You don't need the liability exposure.
