As the title says, I'm taking my bike to have new PCV valves fitted after finding oily mist on top of the rocker boxes. What other jobs would be good to do while the engine's rotated?

It may be your rocker box cover gaskets leaking..? You'll be able to see better once you start tearing into it. Good time to change spark plugs (easily)while rotated.

Oxygen sensor might need replacement if you have over 30K miles on bike. They don't last forever and start to degrade after 15K miles according to American Sportbike.

You don't have to rotate the engine to replace the valves, at least on my '06. To pay someone to do that would be a huge waste of money unless you plan other stuff also.

I wasn't about to rotate the engine to replace mine when I broke the front one trying to get it out to replace the seal. You put the seal on the valve, start the valve into the valve cover, then work the seal down into place. Very doable.

You also don't have to rotate the engine to replace the oxygen sensor.

Intake manifold seals , injector o rings, clean injectors, service the tps n do a hard reset, clean iat, and what everyone else says. Just a ton of stuff to do under there. I don't remember being able to get front breather out with motor up. Did not try to pull with seal on tho. You are the first to mention breather change in a long time! May be worth a thread of its own!

Lyonne,
I replaced my O2 sensor on my ULY without rotating the engine but with the engine rotated it "might" be easier to get at it when it is out in the open rather than later. Surfsofa is asking what things to accomplish while the engine is rotated.
Replacing the O2 sensor without the engine rotated is not a trivial job when you consider the back shock, cooling shroud, and fan are all in the way. I've done it and do not look forward to doing it again.

Rotating the engine is not trivial either even though some here claim to be able to do it in less than a 1/2 hour.
Took me way longer than that but then I've only done it once. It is one of those endeavors that seems way more complicated than it really is.

Take photos so that you have a reference when putting the thing back together. Especially important when you route the wires and such on top of the heads.

Definitely seems more complicated than it is. 08-up and I think 07 as well have the special throttle cable locks on the throttle body that make it take a bit longer. The 03-06 are easy least once you get used to it. I've done it about 10 times already though on my bike alone, making different changes.

I changed my plugs the last time I rotated, its much easier to start that plug in the rear cylinder (I am always uneasy about cross threading it). I would do that if you close to being due for a new set. Also check the plug wires for rubbing.

if you have the engine rotated already, look at the transmission breather vent hose. Mine was touching the rear header melting a hole in it. I had to remove the starter to be able to get the hose off the nipple.

Unless you're doing a lot of riding with a heavily loaded/2-up bike, the front mount should last a lot longer than that. As long as it's not torn or collapsed, it should be fine.
