Maybe Etennuly... All the heat factors wouldn't have much to do with leverage. If you make X pounds decelerate by Y MPH over Z seconds, you are dumping the same amount of heat.

If it is not a heat related issue, diameter of the disc could change the frequency of the pulsing, but I don't see how it could make it come and go. Unless there is some kind of nonlinear "squeeze less then X hard and it won't pulse, squeeze more than X hard and it will pulse". Which wasn't my experience when my rotor was pulsing.

Or maybe squeeze X hard at a stop with a hot rotor and you get deposits, but two calipers squeezing 1/2 x hard won't make deposits. But that all seems a bit unlikely.

What we do know is that the unsprung weight of an XB front braking system is like 9 pounds lighter than a traditional setup. That makes me think it just gets hotter. It's a smaller heatsink.

My point exactly. The selling point of the single rim mounted rotor is the reduced unsprung mass. While this is better for steering/handling, it must get hotter with less mass to absorb/dissipate the heat. What Etenully said about grabbing a wheel at the hub vs the rim doesn't take into account that the rotational force of the wheel is not the only thing you are trying to stop. Ultimately you are stopping the mass of the bike and the rider too. Hopefully. If this balance of weight/handling and braking ability was so clearly better with a Buell style of system, I think others would have copied it years ago. After all it is clearly cheaper to manufacture since it has half the parts. Other ideas like the under engine muffler have been adopted.
Has anyone ever tried fitting a different set of forks with a dual disc setup. Just curious.

I didn't, because a slightly modified rotor and pads were more than sufficient to retain all the benefits of the ZTL system, without having to accept all the drawbacks of a dual rotor setup.

I definitely had PBS (pulsing brake syndrome), from the time I bought my Uly (3k), until I put EBC HH pads on (10k). I would clean the disc with fine sand paper, and get rid of the pulsing, but it always came back, until I replaced the pads. No disc replacement, No hardware replacement, just the pads. 15k with no pulsing and I'm very happy with the feel / power, with these pads.
I'm not doing track days or extremely aggressive riding, so no heat issues.

Ditto Dos Centavos's experience. I run EBC's up front and Lyndals in rear. This combo works for me. Everyday street riding.

Crempel, if you look the new Honda's NC700/750 and CB500 you will find large brake disks attached to the spokes instead of the hub. I would say a middle way for ZTL system.

I too use EBC HH pads and they work great on all my bikes.

I think on the Hondas it's apparent that they use a single disc as a cost saving measure since these are "post financial system debacle how do we sell anything" price point bikes. I'm not saying the ZTL is bad, I'm just saying if it was truly superior, it would have showed up in some other places with slight variations to get around patents.

Try EBC HH pads before you swap to a gixxer front end. ... I think it was carbonfiberbob that did that on his 1125

Don't worry, I am not considering swapping things out. I am ordering the EBC HHs today. Maybe I'll go board racer and remove the front brakes altogether if that doesn't work. Then I could ride around with all those guys who are too scared to use their front brakes cuz "they'll throw you over the handle bars".
