Well the healing of my heel is coming along but still no weight bearing as of yet, nor do I want to! But I finally found my camera and thought I'd post a couple of photo's since that's about all I have!

Here is the middle of South Dakota on Highway 44 at the Missouri River.

Here's a look at Crazy Horse as we make our yearly donation:

Now here's a couple of shots from the top of a needle. I shattered my heel about five minutes later:

So after the hospital visit and a long ride back to the hotel on the back of my brothers bike it was time to order up a U-Haul. So here's something I hope nobody else ever has to see. It's just so SAD!

THE END

Speedy recovery. And yes, 'tis a sad sight to see a Ulysses on a trailer like I had to, also.

Thanks for pix tootal! Hope your doing well and heel is healing. Maybe you guys can have a trailering contest. I know buewulf would be in on that. Just making lemonade here. My uly has been in back of Mazda twice so far. So I'm not all that clean for throwing stones here.

Man I know how painful a broken heel can be, I fell a whole flight of stairs onto a hard tile floor.. could barely crawl back up the steps as my GF (now wife) called me a wimp..

during recovery I borrowed a wheel chair from the airport and rebuilt an old Guzzi in my townhouse, LL was not too happy.

Thanks for the well wishes! Foto, now that's funny! I'm just getting to the point where I might be able to start doing small projects in the garage. Just got to keep any weight off the foot. There's a big Oktoberfest coming soon and my friends are talking about getting me a wheelchair with a battering ram on the front to make our way through the crowd! I won't have to worry about falling down after too many beers! Prost!

Woo Hoo! It sure feels good to ride again!!

Last week my doctor let me out of the surgery boot and into a hiking boot. I've been walking without any sticks for a few days and decided to ride to breakfast this morning. It started to sprinkle a little after eating but I still took the long way home. After charging the battery yesterday it fired right up this morning and ran perfect. What a difference a month makes!

Went to physical therapy yesterday and loved it! I had a cute young blond tell me how flexible I am! Haven't heard that in a long long time!

Hey Greg. Glad to hear you are riding again ... the best medicine available! Of course a cute physical therapist isn't bad either: )

BTW, I just mounted some TCK80's on my Uly. WOW, the extra grip off road is really nice. I need to practice up for a possible trip to Alaska next June. I'm thinking of going up to north Georgia next spring and re-visit some of the roads we took a few years ago. Of course, I'll need to practice my campfire Jenga with some good beer or moonshine as well: )

Hmmm, a long weekend at Two Wheels of Suches next spring ... sounds like MarchBadness revisited ... OR Tootal's advanced physical therapy session.

I hope you heal real soon and that one day we'll ride again. Take care.

Ditto Bruce! Missed you at Buelltoberfest. I didn't ride obviously but did find a nice fire and good company. We'll see how March looks, pretty busy in the Spring.

Here's a ride down memory lane:

Looks like it was after we found the mud!

Glad to hear you are making it back Greg! Nice pics.

What kind of therapy was this young blond into? If it were me in your place she sure wouldn't tell me I was flexible, she would have to work on that!

Sure hate that I missed Buelltoberfest. I'm still grumbling about that around here.

I was hoping to see you two and Bruce too. Like I said above, don't think I'll make it in the spring. We are doing another European beer tour so I'm saving my penny's and vacation time. If it all works out I'll retire at the end of May. Then I'll become a vagabond like Crusty. The only difference is I'll have to come back home to pay the bills and mow the grass! Hmmm, maybe Crusty has the right idea!

Well I did 2 miles and a couple of hills on the bicycle today. Man has this sitting around crap trashed my legs! They were rubber! I took a break and then mounted the Uly for a 20 mile ride. Helped a friend get ready for a huge party tomorrow.
It's "Teach a friend to home brew day" tomorrow so we are having brewing demonstrations during the day and drinking demonstrations at night! I think, "How to light a ginormas bond fire" is also included!

Tootal: would there a be a little bit of pagan in you, sir? I certainly recognize those traits in a fellow!

Nope, no paganism. I've worked in a brewery for 34 years. I understand it, I can make it and I enjoy sampling it but I know my limits. I do joke about it though.

The ginormous bonfire was what caught my eye, tootal! I tried going to work for bud Weiser here in houston. Made it to 4th level interviews, testing, etc. Then got the email of death that I did not quite meet their needs. Oh well. Not a beer guy anyhow.
Glad this thread was sharing of a trip and visiting with good friends. My ocd for a moment made me think I hijacked something.

See there, I'm so far from a Pagan I didn't even get it!

Not a pagan but definitely a pyromaniac!

When you interview for AB Inbred you have to tell them what they want to hear. They don't want anybody with their own brain. They want to be able to mold you, so no free thinkers! They really want to see if you will cross a picket line! If they think you will they will hire you. I was there for the good days, it's turned to crap since the buy out. They constantly try to brain wash us with constant meetings and forced management indoctrination that has nothing with doing our jobs. Consider yourself lucky, just not what it used to be.

It's a shame cause I like what I do and work with some great folks but I just think they are going down the wrong path and I really don't want to participate. Gussie Busch is spinning in his grave!!

It's strange they didn't take you because they are having a real problem keeping good help in Houston. We have sent some of our machinist down there to fix their can seaming machines. (Closers) Once somebody gets experience they leave to work in the oil business that pays better.

Tootal, glad to hear you are back on the bike. I had a bad hand injury back in 2011 that had me going to PT three times a week for a year. I was unable to ride for that long too. I have some of the range of motion back and have been wrenching/riding again. The toughest part was going back to work doing the same thing I was doing every day before. I'm done with it soon. I plan to get out next October. Maybe a bunch of us retirees can make our own rally to attend!
Good luck

out of pocket due to 41st wedding anniversary this weekend today being the day. great weekend to date, I may add. Tootal, i'm thinking a 1955 birth year would be the problem. the retirement thing is not all that great. of course, I did 30.2 years for dow chemical co. been working in non union shops ever since. they are not all that great. Just remember, keep working as long as you can. off podium now. anyhow, watching tremors 5 at this time. Great show so far.

Well I've been there for 34 years and am ready for something less corporately controlled. I already have a job offer from another brewery which I will probably do part time, when I'm not riding!

My father also told me on his death bed to not live in that place. He worked a lot of 7 day weeks and so had I. I took his advise and quit working OT unless drafted. I have lived within my means and know I'll be fine financially.

We just need to come up with a name for our retired Uly riders gang. Instead of the "over the hill gang" we could be the "over the mountain gang"!

I sometimes refer to Uellymae as a tweezerglide thusly showing off the narrowness that she possesses. I would vote for tweezergliders myself. Give yourself some time to heal before going there with mountains, hills, rocks, etc. There are times when karma doesn't Play well and the rebound is atrocious.

Time is good! Saw the doc today and the x-rays say I'm fully healed from the surgery. I'm still limping and it's still swollen but by Summer I should be good to go. Going back to work on Monday if the company doctor ok's it.
