Ride the 06 to work this morning 54 out, suburban roads, 45mph or so, man my right inner thigh is cooking!!!!!!? Comfort kit years ago, just changed the oil, no birds or tennis balls in the air scoop, get to work put my hands on the frame rails they are normal hot. I had on my AD1's felt like exhaust dumping on my thigh. Very odd.

The comfort kit can actually make heat on your right thigh worse. The right side scoop forces more air up around the rear cylinder head. This air gets super-heated and, at least until the fan kicks on (which it likely never did since it was coolish where you are), tends to exit out of the opening in the top of the frame around the right side of the rear cylinder head, and then blow out through the gap between the frame and the bottom of the seat on the right side, RIGHT where your inner thigh is located.

I fixed this on my Uly by sealing this opening in the frame using adhesive-backed aluminum HVAC tape. This forces most of the air to go out through the fan opening and the duct that's part of the comfort kit, exiting around the rear shock. As an alternative you can install weather stripping along the top of the frame rail to seal the gap.

Maybe your seat has shifted a little or the pan has sagged slightly making the gap at the frame rail larger. The hot air may have just been really noticeable this morning with coolish temperatures.

Thanks. I think the weather stripping I had there slid off from the heat. I'll try the HVAC tape.

Bike is just running hot, did some highway yesterday evening temp's in the mid 70's'and the fan was screaming away, not normal on my bike. It has done this when low on oil (mine is a user) but the oil checked out fine.

Rat/bird nest blocking the fan?

Nope.
But stuck in a construction zone with the fan screaming and a full bladder wasn't fun!

Well, if the "cooling system" is OK, and it's full of oil, that would seem to leave a lean fuel/air mixture or ignition timing as possible causes.

Maybe the oil cooler needs a power wash.

When the 02 sensor on my 06 got really bad my bike was so hot my ass felt like it was close to spontaneous combustion.

eg97, when that o2 sensor was going bad, were you coding and throwing a cel, and was your afv changing slowly? curious as to normal wear on o2 sensor, does that start going to the rich side in which the ecm starts cutting fuel? theres the leaner running with extra heat if this scenario is correct.

Sagehawk,
I don't know how the afv was reacting. It was throwing a code and would get hot. Can't recall the code, 13 or 23, for sure was oxygen sensor code though. When the engine trouble light would appear I'd just throttle back to about 60 mph and it would sometimes go away. But after weeks of that it got to a point where the light wouldn't go out and would even start blinking. When that happened it fried my boys bad and ran like crap. Lucky to get it home. Beyond help at that point. Changed out the sensor and was good to go. Just be sure that you get the Bosch sensor from a auto parts dealer because it is half the price of buying the same thing from dealer. Shouldn't have to pay more than about 18 or 20 bucks.

Over filling the oil will mess with the O2 sensor and throw a code also, so it doesn't pay to put in too much oil. Seen that happen a when I rode to Colorado a few weeks back. Throttled back to 60 mph until the oil level stabilized where it should be and haven't seen a code since. I imagine the excess oil went through the air box and through the combustion process and out the muffler.
