I know this has been kicked around. I didn't want to hijack a thread so here goes. 09' Uly starts hard on first press in the AM it resets the instruments. I have followed tt399, I relocated the battery ground to no avail. I have replaced batteries. Having a second Buell I swapped them and they run like a champ in the other bike. Are there other ground locations I may be missing?

There is a sneaky ground that lives under the floor of the airbox. Did you see that?

My '06 is like that on the first start of the day, except the clock/trip meter do not reset.
Do a voltage drop test on the negative battery cable/circuit during the crank.

Volt meter set to 12v.
Put one meter lead on the negative battery post (not the bolt or the ground strap.)
Put the other meter lead on the engine (unpainted surface.)
Then turn the key on and press the start button.

The meter should read less than .2 volts.

I think there was a service bulletin about improving ground connections throughout the bike; IIRC there are one or two in the tale section and one at the head stock. Basically you remove the bolt holding each ground connection to the frame or sub-frame, file the flat of the boss to remove any paint and/or corrosion, wire brush any Locktite from the bolt threads, and reinstall the ground with the clean bolt using a "star" type lockwasher which will "bite" into the bolt head and the ground connector giving a solid electrical connection.

I think the service bulletin was for pre 08 bikes, but the idea is still sound and couldn't hurt.
