Demo'd a CanAm Spyder at Sturgis for the heck of it. Didn't care for it in the least. Very twitchy steering with those two front wheels.

Also demo'd a Yamaha Super Tenere. Very nice bike. Shaft drive, I suppose to mimic a BMW GS. Almost demo'd a VMax but I decided that without a windshield the Interstate 90 portion of the ride would not be fun with my 1/2 helmet so I opted to ride a 900cc Yamaha that looked a bunch like the Super Tenere's smaller brother. It was OK but the larger Super Tenere was more to my liking.

Just got home from my trip. This is my longest trip on the bike by far. I have done 400+ mile days on it before, but never strung several of those days together.

Great tour of NoCal and OR. Camped at Standish-Hickey Redwood SP, Crater Lake NP, spent a night at a hotel in McMinnville, OR, spent a day at the Evergreen Air and Space Museum, quick overnight at The Mill in Coos Bay, camped at MacKerricher SP, and hit t-stoms and hotel'd it in Salinas on my last night out.

I did not see one other Buell. Lots of Harleys. Lots of other Adventure Touring bikes. No Buells.

The bike performed flawlessly. It is an amazing machine and in interesting mix of old-school/new-school. Mine has no badging on it; so, people always wonder what it is. The engine has great pulling power and the bike can haul the mail and put in the miles.

Overall, it is a great sport- or adventure-touring bike. Just enough wind protection for the cool morning but not so much that you are baking on warmer days.

Some niggles with the bike:

Range: I would get the reserve light on at 165 - 180, depending mostly on ambient temperature at the previous fill-up. The hotter it was, the less gas seemed to go in. Every few hours it's usually time to get off the bike anyway, but it seems like some additional range would be nice. I am wondering about an aux tank that could be fabbed to fit inside the saddle bag mounts.

Oil leak: I think the gasket at the starter is still leaking. I went in and tightened up the starter before i left, but I think it is time for a new gasket. The leak got worse as the trip went on.

Front suspension: Being an '06 with the original springs, I find the front way too soft. Always good bite from the front, but way too much dive under braking. After several days of riding, I was getting tired of holding on under hard braking. I think the 07-up springs are a must-have upgrade.

Front brakes: great stopping power, but my 6mm rotor is giving me some pulsing. Hate to think it is warped. I'll try cleaning it up and see what gives.

Legroom: I have long legs. I can flatfoot the bike with an Airhawk on the seat. However, my knees get sore. I think an extra inch of legroom would help. I'll probably search for some lowering pegs.

Some numbers:
7 days/6 nights
2150 miles
10 tanks (frames) of gas
Averaged 48.3 mpg
Best Fuel Economy: 52.3; Worst: 45.1

Billy Bee,
ZacMac says that pulsing is usually cause by dust buildup around the rotor mounting bolts. He said to use a mallet and hit on either side of the bolts to dislodge the buildup. He demonstrated this by hitting the rotor with the heel of his hand which seemed as good as a mallet. Do this around each bolt. Tell us if it works.

Back from my roadtrip to Sturgis. Logged over 6200 miles in 15 days. Had some adventure out there. A small off in the Badlands, steering head wiring problem. Snow on Pikes Peak. Chased by a Buffalo in Custer state park. And Stupid drivers in the Northeast. More pics to post as I go through them. What a trip! Next one is to Alaska!!

Here are a few pics from my trip:

At the Evergreen Air and Space Museum. Impossible to see, but the Spruce Goose is in that hangar.

I think this should be a photo tag starter. I drove way out of my way to ride through Buell, OR. Tiny town. This was the only sign I could find with the town name on it...

Billy, you may already have this info from the new Uly owners section, but in case you don't:
If you don't want to change to '07 fork springs yet, or change oil height, using some rear brake will sure help keep the bike from diving so badly under braking. the rear brake is near worthless for stopping, but works pretty well for this.

Many on here would doubt your 6mm rotor is warped. Likely deposits on it or your mounting setup, as mentioned.
do you have the EBR mounting (that replaces the OEM springs with a copper and a belleville washer)?

Sounds like you had a very good trip.

Nice! The hard bags bounce pretty well, so long as they don't break off the foot peg bracket.

Hey Badwebbers,

I got home on 17-Aug, after 21 days. Rode just over 6,000 miles. The Uly performed flawlessly. The only problem I had was losing my saddlebag keys, twice!

Rode CA to Sturgis, Sturgis to Indianapolis, then back to Colorado before I got off the freeways for the rest of the trip.

Buells were scarce in Sturgis, but a lot of Buell guys at the Indy MotoGP.

I posted some pics on the Badweb FB page.

GREAT THREAD!!
We need more folks to post up about their Uly rides.
Buell sold like 125,000 of these bikes and whenever one of those has a problem, they post up about that but no one posts up much about their rides.
I spent a week recently terrorizing central oregon (Bend area) but I took one of the other bikes and didn't take many pics.

Great pictures gents. Thanks for posting!

Just a tyre note...

I mounted a set of Pirelli Angel GT tires before I left on my 6000 mile adventure. They still look good even after pounding a lot of freeway miles in high temps.

And I got this really cool Leatherman Wingman as part of their promotion.
