So this just happened...riding on a four lane divided highway...two up with my girlfriend on my Ulysses...and a deer jumps over a car in the left lane...and I hit it in it's rear legs at about 70mph...managed to hold it together and not go down...and...managed not to shit myself...I'm chalking this one up as a win!
I'm fine...my girl is fine and did fantastic...bike was on the front wheel and she just held on and let me do my thing
bike is fine...can let go of the bars and she goes straight...no strange vibrations or noises...nothing feels or looks wrong.
I'm glad it happened on this bike...any other bike and i'd have been toast.
Kind of sounds like an encounter I had with my 1992 Crown Vic Police Interceptor in the North Woods of Wisconsin.
Well, OK, I wasn't on half the vehicles wheels...
It damaged the passenger side headlight and cracked the front valence panel.
Glad that you and your girl came out unscathed!
Oh yeah, and the Uly too! 1313 P.S. I found my old Firebolt headlights, but need to do some investigation before I can speak intelligently about them and will PM you then...
Good job keeping it together. I ended up having to ride for several hours after dark this weekend, something I don't like to do, and there were deer everywhere along the side of the road. Definitely kept me on edge. Fortunately, non of them were feeling suicidal that night. Ironically, it was a raccoon that almost spoiled the party. That little joker cut it close.
Good job Ray! That happened to a friend riding home from work at midnight. Deer jumped out of a ditch and ran right in front of him. He caught him right in the rib cage. His a$$ end swung around and hit him in the middle of his calf. With the knee against the tank and ankle against the engine it snapped his leg. He kept it up also but when he went to put down the kickstand he had no control over his foot! Oh Crap! The cops thought he was drunk and ordered him off the bike. He had to show them his broken leg before they would believe him. He later named his bike the "Deer Slayer"! Glad everything stayed intact!
Sagehawk, the low beam isn't great, but the high beam works very well. The protector pattern is pretty weird though no matter which beam you are using.
Rayycc1- Glad you made it thru unscathed. Worked with yet another coach last weekend who previously hit a deer on his m c and was ok-this makes three I have worked with in Mn.
Freaked me out last week when I was on the entry ramp to the freeway and bambi's mama decided she needed to step in the middle of the lane and stare at the driver of the car in front of me. I was fortunately in the truck and after a few seconds of the stare down mama came to her senses and ran back to collect her little ones then off to the wood.
Rayycc1, what I fear the most is something like you experienced. Glad you and your lady are alright. Those were some special skills you had there.
On the way to the Homecoming several weeks ago came over a rise to meet a big Turkey standing in the middle of the road which then decided to turn and run down the middle of the road. The Uly has such a big front brake that in quickly slowing down the rear end started to rise up. Yet the bike performed beautifully. Just the week before on the S1, riding with wide open fields on both sides all the sudden Miss Bambi out of nowhere is running next to me. Had I been a second or two later she would have crossed with me surely hitting her. But very lucky she was even with me and could not pass in front. Slowed down quickly as she was determined to cross. Could have put my left hand out and hit her on her back.
I say to have a hit and come out safe and with no damage is certainly a win.
