Just about 15 minutes ago and about 4 blocks from home. Guy stopped and help me push it up the hill to my house. Could of done it myself but it would have been a wee bit harder. First belt broke a couple of miles from home with 25,000 on bike and this one broke at just under 48,000. I have a spare belt on hand. Thought it popped out of gear and it took me a couple of seconds to figure it out while coasting. Could of easily happened out on I80 where I had just come from. Thankfully it held on until withing a few blocks of home.

Under acceleration? Every time I've broken a belt, it was under acceleration.

Preemptively install a new one at 70,000 miles.
You'll be good to go

Skifast,
It was under acceleration when it broke.

Ftd,
My son's 07 has 22,000 on it's belt so it is probably due.

Went to put my spare belt on and find that it is a belt for a Buell Lightning. Way too short. That belt has been in the garage for at least a year as a just-in-case belt. I called the dealer and they ordered me the correct belt and they claimed over the phone that I'd be able to trade belts when the correct one comes in. I hope they stick to their word a week from now. I certainly don't need a $185 Lightning belt and never did and they are the ones that ordered that belt for me for my 06' ULY. Really would have been a pain if I'd had that Lightning belt sent to me somewhere out on the road while on vacation.

Hats off to Dillon Brothers Harley-Davidson for correcting mistake of over a year ago. They exchanged the belt without complaint as they should and did.
Put it on this morning. Not so bad but could of been designed to be much easier. Hope this belt lasts at least as long as the 2nd belt. 1st belt 25K, 2nd belt 22k, 3rd belt ??.

EG, go ahead and buy another belt. In 10,000 miles swap it out and you'll have a nice, stretched out, belt to install on the side of the road!

Tootal,
Sound advice that I will not ignore. I'll need to be ordering 2 new belts. My son's bike has 22K miles so his is probably near the end it's statistical service. I'm thinking it makes sense to replace them before they fail. I keep thinking how it would really be dangerous if a belt broke in rush hour traffic on the interstate, especially if it happened while you were in a center lane. Life threatening suckage.

There are photos of me losing a belt on my 1125CR. I was attempting to loft the front wheel, and moments after the wheel came off the ground it slammed back down and revved to the ceiling.

Froggy,
Hate when that happens.
I was on Interstate 80 right before the belt snapped and had some dude rubber necking looking at my bike. I wondered later if the belt was shredding or something. When it went completely a couple miles further and near home I never did see it laying on the road because I was more intent seeing how far I could coast. Never went back to find the belt either. Didn't figure I could duct tape it back together. May still be laying there for all I know. Litterbug.
