I'm not too pleased with the Uly seat, it's the low version but I tried the taller one too.. both uncomfortable after just an hour or so.. I used an Airhawk for relief but not great. I see Corbin has or had a saddle for $330.. is it worth it? is there any problem with the pan against the ECU? Other options?  | ||

Remember, there are two different low seats. There was an accessory low seat in 2006 and the standard low seat used on 2007-up Ulys. The accessory low seat has a gel insert and a different shape from the 2007-up seat. Give one a try if you can find one. I like it much better. If I was gonna spend big money on a seat, I'd go to one of the custom seat builders and have one built to fit ME. | ||

I've had Corbins on other bikes and didn't care for them. They use a firm foam that doesn't agree with my tender nether regions. I had Baldwin Cycle Saddlery build me a seat on the stock pan. I agree with Teeps about padded bicycle shorts. Good bicycle shorts also wick, which on a hot day is worth having even with a comfortable seat. | ||

++++++ For the custom seat. If you're going to spend 3-Bills for a ?, might as well go for the sure thing. Had one built for my butt a few years ago. Been comfy ever since. 500-600 miles days are pleasant again, like when I was 25  (and 40-lbs lighter) | ||

I'm only 25# heavier than I was when I was 25... but I had a harder ass back then too. Used to ride my '69 XLCH like it was an ADV bike.  Edit: I have a pair of bike shorts in the drawer too. I don't mind them on an actual mountain or road bike but for some reason putting them on and then pants and then MC gear is just too much of a pain for me. I like to be able to strip the MC gear off and walk around like a normal human being, not like a 60 year old wearing Depends...  That's for the first guy who suggests I might BE a 60 year old wearing Depends... might as well have the look too? (Message edited by woodnbow on April 19, 2015) | ||

Foto. Your low seat is the late non gel model. It is more comfy than the gel one but I found it takes 10k miles or so to break in. I had a Corbin seat on another bike and found it VERY hard on the ass as well as the wallet. I would also suggest a custom made seat. You can buy a used Uly seat very cheap. This and a "re-work" will be less than a Corbin and EXACTLY what you want. Use PROPER memory foam for this, as it works real good, and a seat shape/ size that suits you and/ or the pillion. | ||

Here are some sources for custom/modified seats I came up with a few years back. The only one I have experience with is Sargent out of Jacksonville, FL. They do good work the mail though. I'm sure some of the others are closer to you, but I think most will also do work using photos and info from you through the mail. Avoid Rick Mayer at all costs. Seriously. A simple Google Search will tell you that dealing with Rick is a disaster at best. There are so many negative stories about him out there. I loved the tall seat when I had my Uly. The only stock seat I've ever liked. When I had my Concours, I tried a Corbin and found it way too hard - it never broke in right to me, so I traded it for a Russell. My current ride, an ST1300, came with a Sargent. I like the Sargent. Enough that I won't replace it, but there is no seat like a Russell Daylong. I did a IBA BBG1500 (1500 miles in 24 hours) on that Russell, and while I was tired and sore, it wasn't because of the seat. They are the pinnacle of motorcycle seats. | ||

You say you've tried the taller seat. Do you mean the tallest one that was standard for '06/'07 or the one that would have come as standard with your '09 bike. I have an '09 and replaced the standard seat with the '06/'07 seat and later with the accessory tall seat (same as the '06/'07 but without the seams). I find this seat as good as any I've used including several Corbins. | ||

Thanks, I sent email to Russel and like the Baldwin product.. Don't worry I know all about Rick Mayer, he still has over $400 and the seat sent in by another Guzzi rider months ago, he will never recover either. sad. I have 2 seats so I can send one off for the work no problem. | ||

I didn't care for the stock seat on my '09, I felt like I was always sliding towards the airbox. I purchased a used Corbin, and liked it much better, however, the leather is smooth, and I felt like I slid around quite a bit. This can be improved with a slightly inflated Airhawk. I recently bought an accessory tall seat, but haven't had very much time to try it yet. Initial impressions are that it will keep me from sliding, it isn't 'canted' towards the airbox, and that my knees aren't as bent as they are in either of the other two seats. Downside is that it's a little more reach to the pavement, but I'm 6' tall, so not a big issue for me. | ||

I have a Baldwin on my 09 Uly. He added a gel insert that is super cush when it's warm. When it's below 40 it's pretty hard, sometimes I put a pot of hot water on it before I ride. Loren and his mom do great work and he is a regular, or was, in the Old School sections. Z | ||

I have an 09 which came with a stock seat,(medium I think) a tall seat off an earlier model and a Corbin.. I have not used the others since I purchased the Corbin used off Ebay. The Corbin is the most comfortable for me but it still pitches me forward and becomes uncomfortable after an hour or so. While I understand this post is about seats, the last purchase I've made for my bike was the Palmer pegs. With these, the advantage is with my feet just resting on the pegs, I slide back and my butt rests up against the back of the seat. This gives me a different seating position, provides relief for the knees, back and a little more air flow up the pant legs. I would like to try an Air Hawk next. If that helps, I'll try it with the original seat for a lower seating position. | ||

I do use an Airhawk on long trips but it puts me a little tall at a stops. it works very well for what it is.. you let air out while seated till butt just touches down on seat and it fills in around the edges. |
