Fellow Buellers!

So finally got my T-Rex crash-Bars on the Uly (after 6-months of them sitting on my bench). I put about 4,000-6,000 on my Uly per year, mostly touring with my buddy. I had the idea to attach some highway/rest pegs to the T-Rex bars, as they are perfectly aligned for my leg-length (And the Palmers won't fit with the T-Rex bars on).

Here are a few pics. Can't see the details, but you can see what I'm after.
I formed a good plan, and found the right part I wanted. the only issue I ran into was that the T-Rex 21mm and there's no tube clamp out there that size that will hold a foot-peg. I was undeterred, I'm fairly ingenuitive, I can work sh*t out... (yes, famous last words)

So I just get a 1" Magnum Clamp from Kuryakyn and a length of 3/4 rubber fuel line at O'Reilly's.

Cut a few shot pieces of rubber tube, split it, wrap it around the T-Rex tubes, through the Magnum clams on. Nice tight fit (with a little extra vibration absorption from the rubber), throw the pegs on and she's a go! Not!

So, I "looks" great. but as soon as I throw a leg on the peg it slowly turns on the bar... Part of me thought like...WTF... and part of me thought ...Duh...
Obviously, the rubber, although tight, can't get any traction on the painted tube. I COULD score the tube, but I'd rather not...

Hopping for some advice/direction from some of you REAL ingenuitive tinkerers out there on what I can use to get these clamps to "stay put"!....

Here are a few pis. Can't see the details, but sort of what I'm going for...

You could make some half moon filler pieces from a piece of alu pipe cut in two.

Brilliant! That's what come with many tube-clamps as a "reducer". My tells me Sometimes (often, actually), that when I'm "wrapped around the axles" I can't see the obvious.

Much appreciated!

You could also mount them as you already have done and run a screw through the clamp and crash bar. That would be pretty easy and would certainly keep them from rotating.

What have you got as a skid plate and where did you get it?

Toolinround,

Thanks for the tip. Though, wouldn't a screw (hole) through the tube compromise the integrity of the tube, especially given the tubes function as a crash-bar? ; )

The skid-plate is a Touratech. No longer made

BIB,

A tip of the hat to you. I picked up a length of aluminum "hobby-pipe" from the hardware store today, cut some proper lengths, gave them a center rip.. ala shims...

and the M-F'ers don't move now!

Thanks!
