What are folks thoughts on use of this threadlocker or alternatives to it? It is a permanent threadlocker that I believe needs to be heated to undo. Once properly torqued it is hard to think these would vibrate loose. | ||

I have used blue or 242 , 262 , instead of red. easier to disassemble. Hate heating the red stuff to disassemble and have never had anything come apart yet. now , pinion shaft nuts?????? Use your judgement. haven't had a lot of pinion or clutch nut work yet over the years. I know on breather bolts on flhr and xl 1200sport , I've used blue instead of red I havent had anything come loose. Loctite stuff is good and even in industry, I think it's good stuff. | ||

I really don't think that the pinch bolts have any tendency to loosen. | ||

Yeah, I wouldn't use 271, on a steel bolt threaded into aluminum... As a rule, I do not use thread locker, except for brake rotor and rear pulley. On those I use Blue Loctite. On the fork pinch bolts, I put just a very small dab of Permatex silver anti-seize & torque to about 90% of recommended spec. | ||

FWIW I use more anti-seize on my Uly than I use Loctite. | ||

I use medium strength threadlock on fasteners that call for lock. I also use touchup paint - torque the fastener, and put a dot of paint on it. During my preflights, if the dot isn't where it belongs...I know to retorque before riding. | ||

General rule of thumb is anything under 1/2" is blue, unless it's tiny,(10-32), then use purple. Over 1/2" uses red. I too use anti-seize on screws that come off a lot, like the screws in the muffler for the lower cowl and the screws on the air box cover. |
