An out of town Ulysses owner is keeping his full tall Uly seat (near no visible step) and has two other stepped seats he'd consider selling.

How could I verify whether he's got the 2007 and on standard stepped seat, or whether he might have the optional, deeply stepped OEM Low Seat.

Are the part numbers at all visible on the seat pan ?

What is the measurement of the drop of the standard dished, compared to the optional Low Seat's dip / step ?

My 2010 XB12X with standard saddle, is simply too tall, for my 5" 8" height...

Any advice on the easiest way to communicate the differences,
so I don't end up with another stepped standard seat in the mail ?

Thanks all !

I posted this in the other thread where you asked about it:

996, the easiest way to identify the difference between the two seats is by the material of the seat. The lowest seat is the accessory seat and has a leather like material, and the driver seat area has a mesh looking texture. The standard 07+ seat has a vinyl material, with the same texture for both the driver and passenger.

The part numbers are on the bottom, but all the seats use the same pan, so it will list all the part numbers. There is a mark that tells you which part number it is, but it can easily fade away entirely.

In these pictures you can see in detail what the lowest seat (accessory low seat) looks like, with the two different textures:

Flip it over, there's a "breather" hole in the pan under the front half. IIRC, the 2006 Low has a gel insert which is visible through that hole, the '06 and '07-up Standards have foam visible. Might be mistaken but that's what I recall...

Thanks Froggy and Xbimmer this is the sort of simple and substantive differences, that will make it easy to identify this gents stepped seats, with emails / advrider pm's etc.

Yes I posted twice, because I found the other thread through an online search and thought it would've been in the general Big, Bad & Dirty forum section and was worried when I posted, to find it was in a subsection and might not be as commonly viewed.

Thanks all !

The one that has the same vinyl for rider and passenger, has far more grip, so you wont slip on it.

My 06 low seat has the gel insert too, but the seat material is the same across the length of the seat.

I hope this helps.

you may find this strange place for this post but if you put the lower seat on you may find the seating position cramped. I tried low seat and found this out on long runs. remedied the problem with a set of Knight Design dropped rider pegs( they are a site sponser) even better sitting position with the standard seat and much better traction for the boots

I was WRONG!

My seat is just like the one Froggy has pictured. It is looking like I need to spend more quality time with my Uly.

I have the accessory low seat in Barricade orange and black.

It is fine for in town shorter trips for me. I like to stretch onto the pilon area on long rides and find the rise to be a pain in the azz. Also the gel seems a little hard, probably due to not being able to move around as much, and then it is wider where the hips have to aim outward, that causes me some discomfort.

I also noticed more heat gets to the bottom parts through the gel in hot summer riding. But it is nice to have an option for those special days.

Thanks all, for the easy to use info, on identifying the optional Uly Low Seat.

An advrider inmate ended up having 2 2007+ stepped standard height seats, neither being the low seat I desired.
