It should be noted that 80k of that was highway commuting miles... |

That is awesome! Congrats, and that on a fairly short repair list. |

That is awesome . . . . I'm sure you'll have a belt fail. I've been trying, in 44 states, over the past nearly 30 years and I'm sure it's going to happen any day. I read it on the internet. That really is a neat accomplishment! |

The bit that surprises me apart from the belt not breaking is how long the rear wheel bearings lasted. Additionally, you have never replaced the headrace or swingarm bearings. It's all rather impressive apart from the 5th gear bearing going at 82K. Why do you think that happened? (Message edited by Turf moor on December 20, 2014) |

It happened because that gear had the most use. |

Turf, I think the fact that most of the miles were highway helped save the belt. No off road either. A few wheelies here and there. I was surprised at the wheel bearings. I bought a set at 25k expecting the worst! |

The 5th gearing bearing was a pretty classic stress failure. The outside row was much worse than the inside row. It doesn't get much oil out there. It's a huge bearing and should handle the belt tension with ease. |

Ah! The output shaft needle bearing runs on oil mist. Correct? Would this lead to the 5th gear failure? I have a grease nipple fitted on mine. A big dollop every service. These bikes are much better than the detractors say. |

Yeah, the needle bearings were fine. I reused them. They get much better lubrication. Looking at the design, I'm not sure the grease would get to the ball bearings though. And I always worried about the affects of mixing grease into the oil. |

Would be really neat if all the Uky riders would post such records of their Uly history. Nice, simple, concise, devoid of ranting or the like. Thanks for sharing that Too Late Braker! |

That's a great idea, Blake. I'd do mine now, but I haven't even done 20,000 miles on it, so it's of little significance. I think those Uly riders who have done at least 50,000 miles should do this. |

Well looks like I have to add something to the list. My front drive sprocket lost all its teeth! Spun right around the final drive shaft teeth. Thankfully those are still in tact! |

Haven't heard that one before. Was the nut tight? (the nut on the shaft) |

Yeah, nut was tight, no play back and forth on the shaft. Really weird. |

The last time your belt broke you shouldn't of replaced it with a chain. |

On reassessment, maybe add to the list of common problems. |
