Lectric bikes have to hit three points to go prime time; range, charge duration and price.

Hit those three points and I'll buy one.

Totally (partially?) unrelated - Motorola/android announced "turbo charging" with the Android Turbo. 15 minute charge time, for 8 hours of battery life.

Could it be tech is catching up to the idea of "fast charge for long life"? Something like this, combined with smaller/lighter batteries (enabling redundant power sources - 2 sets on board, one charged, one charging)...could be the key. Or, the start to finding the key.

Battery price....Nissan Leaf owners are getting quite a shock as the initial models batteries are nearing the end of their lifespan and owners are having to go in the pockets to the tune of $4000 to $5000 for new batteries.
However I am all in on an electric bike once they get touring distance up.

500 miles so far on the SR, no issues to date. When I ride my gas bikes they feel archaic.

I commute to/from work, do errands, go home, plug in and repeat. No range anxiety at all. If you can plug in at work then your commute could be as long as 80-100 miles each way depending on how fast and how you ride.

As a third or even second bike it's a no brainer. Commute with it during the week and take your regular bike out when you need to go farther.

As an only bike, if you operate within its limits it works fine.

Jose,
I'm assuming you have a ZERO. Tell us more about how it is to live with it.

Yes 2014 Zero SR.

Day to day is just ride, plug in and repeat. It has three drive modes, I usually ride in sport (full power) or custom mode, which I can tune with a phone app. I rarely ride in eco mode.

It makes virtually no noise, vibration or heat. It makes it hard to judge speed but you get used to it.

Low speed control is flawless, I can ride at walking speed and it will not surge/buck or complain. No need to slip the clutch, shift or worry about rpm's. A perfect bike for Battletrax if you remember what that was.

It is small, almost scooter like with the skinny tires and the storage space where the tank normally sits.

To be sure it is not perfect. It is a $5k bike wrapped around $12k of electronics and it shows. The suspension is crappy, and the componentry in general is cheap. But it works. Should have waited for the 2015's but oh well. I can upgrade stuff later.

One more thing.

I have ridden the Livewire. In terms of looks, fit and finish that bike is better than the Zero, but the riding experience is very similar. The SR feels faster.

But until that bike is on sale (and at what price) I'll happily ride my Zero. As I told the reps after the demo ride, my next HD will be electric.

For the long rides I still have the CR and the Uly, but eventually I'll replace them with the EBR AX.

What does the Ins company think of it? I'd like to have one but the price and range scared me off. Now that I see the amount of fuel I'm pouring through my 25mpg S1K its beginning to look better.

I'm really hoping the LiveWire gets the mileage per charge that the Zero claims before they sell them. I also rode the LiveWire and loved it but seemed a bit small for me. It was perfect for my wife though.
